The texture and expression of a great rosé wine from Côtes de Provence
The estate
Established in the heart of Provence, not far from Saint-Tropez, Caves d’Esclans showcase exceptional expertise in crafting premium rosés. Combining technical innovation with respect for terroir, the estate has become one of the leading signatures of the Provençal vineyard. Caves d’Esclans is a négociant-éleveur activity founded in 2006 by Bordeaux native Sacha Lichine, who also owns, in the Var, the renowned Château d’Esclans.
The vineyard
On the Côte d’Azur, near the ancient Roman city of Fréjus, the Esclans Valley is home to the 44 hectares of vines of the eponymous château. Averaging around 35 years of age, the vines are planted on varied soils depending on the parcels: clay, limestone, and sandy gravel. This diversity of terroirs brings a broad range of expressions to these great Côtes de Provence wines.
In a constant pursuit of excellence, Caves d’Esclans also maintains close ties with local partner growers, committed alongside them and applying vineyard standards comparable to those of the Château d’Esclans estate.
The wine
Created in 2006 by Sacha Lichine with the ambition of sparking “the rosé renaissance,” the Whispering Angel cuvée has now established itself as an essential benchmark in Provence. Whispering Angel 2024 stands out as one of the most accomplished vintages to date, the result of vinification carried out with meticulous attention in order to achieve perfect overall harmony.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the House unveils its 20th vintage: a rosé designed for lovers of refined wines, with an expressive nose combining citrus and red berries, offering a creamy and persistent 2025 palate, driven by constant freshness and a dry, intense finish.
Vinification and aging
After a rigorous selection, the grapes are hand-harvested at night and then transported to the cellars. They are then sorted using an electronic optical system. Destemming and crushing are carried out gently at 7-8°C to limit oxidation. Fermentation and aging are carried out separately in stainless-steel tanks for 3 months with regular bâtonnage. The blend is crafted from the finest free-run and press juices.
