Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Minéral Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Extra Brut 2020 from Champagne Agrapart
Tasting
Colour
This champagne reveals a pale gold hue with luminous highlights, animated by a stream of fine, persistent bubbles.
Nose
The nose opens with citrus notes, particularly lemon zest, accompanied by white flowers and a discreet hint of brioche. Touches of chalk and flint, along with a subtle briny note, underscore the chalky origin of the terroir.
Palate
On the palate, this champagne is precise and taut, driven by vibrant acidity and pronounced salinity. The long finish extends this chalky, saline sensation that is characteristic of the cuvée.
Food and Wine Pairing
This champagne is an ideal match for raw fish, seafood and oven-baked fish, as well as soft cheeses, whose texture and freshness it accentuates.
Serving and Cellaring
Minéral Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Extra Brut 2020 is best served between 8 and 10°C, a temperature that brings out its tension and salinity. Aged for an extended period on the lees, this wine is also designed to evolve favourably in the cellar.
A Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru from Avize and Cramant, the Signature of Champagne Agrapart
The Estate
Champagne Agrapart is a family-owned house founded in 1894 in Avize, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, by Arthur Agrapart. Now run by Fabrice Agrapart, together with his partners Emmanuel and Johanna, the house farms its vines according to biodynamic principles and continues the tradition of the grower-producer. Renowned for its terroir-driven champagnes, it has established itself as a benchmark for the chalky soils of the Côte des Blancs.
The Vineyard
The Minéral cuvée comes from two emblematic plots in Champagne, Champ Bouton(s) in Avize and Les Bionnes in Cramant, both planted with old Chardonnay vines dating from around 1980. These plots sit on particularly thin soils, barely covered by topsoil above a thick bed of chalk, which encourages deep rooting of the vines. Agrapart practises respectful viticulture here, without herbicides or chemical pesticides, and with an exclusively manual harvest.
Vinification and Ageing
The production of Minéral Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Extra Brut 2020 relies on separate vinification of the two plots: Champ Bouton(s) is vinified in stainless steel tanks, while Les Bionnes is fermented in 600-litre barrels. Fermentations are spontaneous, carried out with indigenous yeasts, and followed by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration, then rested on the lees for several years before manual riddling and disgorgement carried out shortly before release.
Grape Variety
This Extra Brut champagne is made from 100% Chardonnay.
