    Alison Napjus

Rich and mouthwatering, this powerhouse Champagne is driven by vivacious acidity, with an expansive palate featuring flavors of glazed apricot, toasted brioche, candied kumquat and ginger, espresso crème, fleur de sel and cognac. The well-spiced finish is long and lingering. Disgorged summer 2013. Drink now through 2030. 949 cases made.

Magnum. ID 411050. Disgorged winter 2012-13. 42% Pinot Noir, 43% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Meunier. Named ‘Stormy Indulgence’ owing to the unusual and climatically chaotic year. On 2 July a violent hailstorm fell on nearly 4,000 ha, representing some 13% of the appellation’s total area. Harvest took place between 11 September and 25 September. Tasted blind. Mid greenish straw. Rather similar nose to the third sample of the 2002. Light and fresh on the nose. Intense tropical-flower nose. Strong and floral and exotic. Emphatic. Relatively mellow. Long undertow. Builds to a beautiful conclusion. Quite sweet start. (JR)

    Description

A vintage Champagne imbued with complexity and elegance

    The estate

Since 1843, the Champagne Krug House has honored the dream of its founder, Joseph Krug, by creating each year a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of Champagne, regardless of annual climatic variations.

The House considers that each Krug Vintage expresses the unique character of a particular year. A Krug Vintage brings together the most expressive wines from the same year, enhanced by over ten years of aging in the cellar. Each Krug Vintage is different: it is the Music of the Year, transposed into the Krug universe.

    The vineyard

With more than 250 different plots, including the prestigious Clos du Mesnil and Clos d’Ambonnay, the Krug House holds an exceptional vineyard heritage in Champagne.

    The vintage

A true tour de force, this 2000 vintage Champagne is at once generous, precise and deep, nicknamed Tempestuous Indulgence. The year 2000 ranks among the warmest years in which Krug has created vintages, all of which have proven to be the source of excellent Champagnes (1947, 1959, 1976, 1982, 1989).

    Tasting

This Champagne with its intense color invites an exquisitely refined tasting. Caramel, nougat, hazelnut, and freshly baked pastries mingle with notes of citrus gratin and fruit, as well as lime zest, leading to a particularly lingering finish.
