    Description

Tasting notes and advice for the Pernand-Vergelesses Village 2023 from Maison Champy

    Tasting

    Color
The wine displays a golden hue enhanced by golden highlights.

    Nose
The bouquet reveals aromas of citrus fruit and white flowers, accompanied by notes of wild mint. A mineral, smoky undertone completes this aromatic palette.

    Palate
The attack is straightforward, fresh, and elegant. The tasting leads into a long, lingering finish.

    Food pairings
This Pernand-Vergelesses Village 2023 pairs beautifully with grilled fish marinated with herbs or sole meunière. It also harmonizes very well with salmon tartare with dill or sea bass with fennel. For cheese, opt for goat cheeses such as Banon or sheep’s milk cheese.

    Serving and cellaring
Serve this Pernand-Vergelesses Village 2023 at a temperature between 12 and 14 °C. This wine can be cellared until around 2033.

A white Pernand-Vergelesses combining the freshness and minerality typical of the Côte de Beaune

    The estate
Founded in Beaune in 1720 by cooper Edme Champy, Champy holds the title of Burgundy’s oldest wine merchant. Since 2016, it has been part of the AdVini group and farms 21 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, stretching from Volnay to Corton-Charlemagne. About half of the vineyards are organically certified, the other half certified Haute Valeur Environnementale. Its remarkable historic heritage, its 15th-century cellars, and its collaboration with Louis Pasteur on wine pasteurization earned it the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label in 2021.

    The vineyard
The Pernand-Vergelesses appellation lies in the north of the Côte de Beaune, in a hilly winegrowing area on the slopes of Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune, where vines have been cultivated since the Middle Ages. The terroir is distinguished by a diversity of soils and exposures. The Chardonnay vines are planted high on the slopes on marly, clay-limestone soils.

    The vintage
In the 2023 vintage, the first green tips appeared on Chardonnay at the end of March and on Pinot Noir in early April. This year produced wines with fruity, supple profiles, marked by lovely freshness in both the whites and the reds.

    Vinification and aging
The harvest is carried out by hand. The grapes come from Domaine Champy, with 80% sourced from the “Plante des champs et combottes” parcel. Vinification follows a traditional approach using natural yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in full. The Pernand-Vergelesses Village 2023 is aged for 12 months in barrels, 20% of which are new oak.

    Grape variety
This white wine from Burgundy is made from 100% Chardonnay.
