    Vinum

Pronounced fruit on the nose and palate; rich, almost opulent yet without heaviness, ripe cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, fine tannins; long finish. Very successful again this year.

    Decanter

Endearing aromas of sweet herb, ripe plum and cassis introduce a juicy palate with fine tannin leading to a long, satisfying finish.

    Falstaff

    Falstaff

Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Ripe cherries, fine cassis, some blackberry confit, inviting bouquet. Juicy, elegant, liquorice, fresh acidity, ripe tannins, mineral and salty finish, a light-footed style and a versatile food wine.

    Weinwisser

Delicate red and blue-berried bouquet, notes of violet and lilac, and light tobacco. On the juicy palate, a soft texture, well-supporting freshness, and a straightforward medium body. The focused finish shows fresh red cherry juice, redcurrant jelly, and fine-grained astringency. A safe bet from Haut-Médoc.

The first Bordeaux estate to be bought by Treasury Wine Estates, now produced in much smaller quantities as most of the vines were used in other wines. It's good quality, with cheerful and well-balanced red fruits, fresh acidity, and an easy-going style. My suggestion is to look to the excellent Lanessan in this vintage, also in the same group.

There is a wealth of sweet, ripe, juicy, vibrant, chewy red fruits with a savory note here, on the nose and palate. Forward, fresh, and vibrant, this is going to be great on release for its lift, touch of chocolate, and red berries on the finish. Drink from 2026–2039. 89–91 pts.

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Cambon la Pelouse 2023

    Tasting

Complex and beautifully structured, this vintage exudes delicious woody and fruity aromas.

A rich and indulgent Haut-Médoc wine

    The estate

Located in the AOC Haut-Médoc, the Château Cambon la Pelouse is one of the serious references of its appellation. The estate ranks as an Exceptional Cru Bourgeois following the new classification established, the mention being applicable from the 2018 vintage until the 2022 vintage. Château Cambon La Pelouse is now owned by Treasury Wines Estates, a globally renowned group with extensive experience in Australian, New Zealand, American and Italian vineyards.

    The vineyard

A reference among the Haut-Médoc wines, Château Cambon La Pelouse is remarkably located on the edge of the Margaux appellation. Spread over an area of 65 hectares, the vines are planted on large, lean and sandy gravel soils dating from the Quaternary. The particularity of these soils gives the vineyard an excellent drainage capacity while promoting the maturity of the grapes thanks to the heat stored during the day by the gravels. 2021 marks the beginning of the organic farming certification process for the vineyard.

    The vintage

A warm and humid spring leads to high mildew pressure controlled by the rigour and know-how of the teams. The summer is relatively cool before a scorching end of August and a September whose warm and sunny conditions ensure an ideal concentration of the berries while preserving a beautiful freshness.

    Vinification and ageing

The ageing of 12 months is carried out in French oak barrels (of which 50% are new barrels, 25% of one wine and 25% of two wines).

    Blend

    Merlot (53%)
    Cabernet Sauvignon (45%)
    Petit Verdot (2%).
