    Vinum

Exceptionally mineral, profound, cool, lime, green apple; juicy palate, delicate fruit, lively acidity, salted preserved lemon on the finish. Can age.

Honeysuckle, lemon wax, pomelo, and white flowers are easy to spot in the nose, and on the crisp, bright palate packed with citrus and pineapple, leaving you with a fresh, refreshing finish. This will be ready to drink on release, but you can also age it for a decade or longer if you wish. The wine blends 96% Sauvignon Blanc with 4% Sauvignon Gris. Drink from 2025-2035.

    Falstaff

    Falstaff

Pale greenish yellow, silver reflections. Delicate notes of white peach, a hint of gooseberries, nuances of grapefruit zest. Juicy, elegant, white tropical fruit, fine acidity, mineral, lime on the finish; a lively, balanced food wine with some finesse.

Lime blossom, pink grapefruit, apricot and citrus; less austere than in recent vintages, this has attractive weight across the palate. 25% new oak and the rest in neutral oak between one and two years, 18% in tank.

    Le Figaro Vin

Score: 88–90. Nose still marked by light oak, yet you can sense white-fleshed fruits, citron, and more honeyed notes beginning to emerge (elderflower). The palate is defined by the acidity of lime and kumquat.

    Terre de Vins

It catches the eye with its beautiful golden-yellow hue. The current oak integration provides generous volume as well as a lovely bitterness. With its zesty structure and notes of lemon, it reveals all the typicity of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. While the finish is still a little short, one can already tell it will be among the white wines built for ageing.

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Couhins white 2023

    Tasting

Combining precision and refinement ideally, this white wine stands out for its balance and aromatic purity.

The elegance and rich aromatic palette of a Pessac-Léognan white wine

    The estate

The Château Couhins emerges from the archives in the 18th century. This estate originally brings together two old wine properties from the Graves. An integral part of the INRA (National Institute of Agronomic Research) network, Château Couhins puts its know-how and vineyard at the service of viticultural research and innovation.

    The vineyard

The Château Couhins white 2023 is a Pessac-Léognan wine from a vineyard of 8 hectares planted around the town of Villenave d'Ornon, at the gates of Bordeaux. The vines are planted on a mosaic of terroirs formed by a clay-limestone hillside and a sandy-clay plateau. Sauvignon Blanc is king and occupies 90% of the vineyard. Sauvignon Gris makes up the rest of the vines. To preserve this precious terroir, the estate uses environmentally friendly viticulture.

    Vinification and ageing

A cold pneumatic pressing under inert gas in whole harvests is carried out, followed by a light settling. Alcoholic fermentation before ageing for 10 months in barrels (of which 21% are new) on lees with regular stirring.

    Blend

    Sauvignon Blanc (96%)
    Sauvignon Gris (4%).
