The 2024 Chateauneuf du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes is broad and dramatic, bursting with aromas of smoke, spices, ripe white fruits, confit citrus and nutmeg. Full-bodied, layered and unctuous, with a fleshy, enveloping core of fruit framed by saline acidity, it’s a terrific white wine—and a strong contender for wine of the vintage.

Citrussy aromatics this year – satsuma and pink grapefruit with a touch of pickled ginger. Powerful but very tense, showing lovely intensity and salinity. Vibrant, not overly fat or alcoholic and the oak is well judged. You could drink this now, but it will age very well. Matured in 50% new and 50% one-year-old barrels.

So rich and dense yet so precise and delicate, this is a miraculously balanced white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. I love the aromas of floral honey and beautifully ripe melon, and on the medium- to full-bodied palate the subtle spicy notes are a delight. Super-long and super-elegant finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

    Description

An elegant white wine from the Rhône Valley with a rich aromatic profile

    The estate

Built in the 16th century, Château de Beaucastel was taken over at the beginning of the 20th century by Pierre Tramier. His son-in-law, Pierre Perrin, breathed new life into the estate, while Jacques Perrin expanded its reputation beyond national borders. Today, Jacques Perrin’s sons and grandsons continue this family estate’s pursuit of excellence, ranking among the finest names in Rhône Valley wines.

    The vineyard

Château de Beaucastel cultivates a 110-hectare single-block vineyard located in the northern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Converted to organic farming since the 1960s, the vines thrive on soils with surface pebbles and layers of clay, sand, and limestone deeper down. Seven hectares are dedicated to producing white wines.

    Vinification and aging

Manual harvest followed by a rigorous sorting of the bunches. The grapes are picked in small crates and then undergo pneumatic pressing. After settling, fermentation takes place partly in oak barrels (30%) and in stainless steel tanks (70%). Aging continues for eight months, with the same split between barrels and tanks. Bottling after eight months.

    Grape variety

Château de Beaucastel’s 2024 Roussanne Vieilles Vignes is 100% Roussanne.
