Description
An elegant red Mercurey with fine structure
The estate
Founded in 1934, when the Marquis de Jouennes decided to have the wines of his 18th-century château bottled at the estate, Château de Chamirey is today one of the benchmark estates of the Mercurey appellation in Burgundy. The property has belonged to the Devillard family for several generations and is now represented by Amaury and Aurore Devillard, who run the estate alongside their father, Bertrand. The 37-hectare vineyard, a large part of which is classified premier cru, reflects a constant commitment to quality and to the expression of the Mercurey terroir.
The vineyard
Located in the Mercurey appellation, in the Côte Chalonnaise, the Château de Chamirey vineyard extends across the hillsides overlooked by the château, which is built on a rocky spur above the village. The clay-limestone soils form a mosaic of terroirs that nourishes the Mercurey Village cuvée, made from several plots spread across the commune. The vines, planted at a high density of 10,000 vines per hectare, are farmed using sustainable methods, without pesticides, in order to best preserve the expression of the Mercurey terroir.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes for the Mercurey Village 2025 are harvested and sorted by hand, following the estate's customary practices. The vinification of the Pinot Noir relies on a maceration designed to extract colour and tannins, accompanied by regular punching down and pumping over. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out with the estate's indigenous yeasts, in pursuit of purity and fidelity to the terroir. Ageing then continues in Burgundian oak barrels, in keeping with the estate's philosophy.
Grape variety
The Mercurey Village 2025 is made from Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety of Burgundy and of the Mercurey appellation.
