    Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Lieu-dit "La Madone" 2023 from Château de la Chaize

    Tasting

    Color
The color reveals a beautiful violet hue characteristic of gamay.

    Nose
The bouquet expresses all the indulgence of gamay with juicy aromas of black cherry and plum. Peppery notes accompany this fruity expression, while the mineral freshness and graphite nuances of the granite terroir add complexity and elegance. Aging in oak foudres adds nuanced woody touches to the whole.

    Palate
The attack is direct, followed by a powerful and generous mid-palate. The well-managed tannic structure brings tension and harmony to the whole, creating a remarkable balance.

    Service and cellaring
The Lieu-dit "La Madone" 2023 is ideally served at 15°C to reveal its full aromatic complexity.

An exceptional Red wine from Beaujolais sourced from the heights of the Fleurie appellation

    The estate
Founded in 1674 by François de La Chaize d'Aix, the Château de la Chaize spreads over 450 hectares including 150 of vines in Beaujolais, in Odenas. Run by the Gruy family since 2017 under the leadership of Christophe Gruy, this exceptional estate combines prestigious architectural heritage and ancestral winemaking know-how. Its château, designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, and its gardens laid out by André Le Nôtre, classified as a Historic Monument in 1972, make it one of the largest estates in Beaujolais across the appellations Brouilly and Fleurie.

    The vineyard
"La Madone" is a single-parcel cuvée sourced from the heights of Fleurie, near the Chapelle de la Madone. The seventy-year-old vines flourish on a sandy, stony terroir dominated by granite and lamprophyre, benefiting from an eastern exposure. The vines’ average age of 70 years gives depth and complexity to this exceptional cuvée.

    Winemaking and aging
The Lieu-dit "La Madone" 2023 undergoes single-parcel vinification with full destemming. The 21-day maceration in stainless steel tanks is accompanied by pump-overs and rack-and-returns, without punch-downs. After malolactic fermentation, this Beaujolais wine matures for 7 months in oak foudres, preserving the purity of the fruit while bringing structure and complexity.

    Grape variety
    100% Gamay Noir.
