Characteristics and Tasting Advice for the Lieu-dit "Brulhié" 2022 from Château de la Chaize

Tasting

Color
The color reveals an intense ruby red hue with primary violet highlights, reflecting the youth of the vintage.

Nose
The bouquet unveils a captivating aromatic palette combining red fruits and stone fruits, enhanced by floral notes of peony and dried rose. Whole-cluster elements add an extra dimension, while graphite and mineral nuances provide elegant depth and remarkable freshness.

Palate
The attack is broad, with a full and firm mid-palate. The tannins form a noble framework, extended by a finish of red fruit and spice aromas.

Food and Wine Pairings

This Côte de Brouilly pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, Provençal herb–roasted poultry, or a platter of fine cold cuts. It also goes very well with soft cheeses such as a matured Camembert.

Serving and Cellaring

The Lieu-dit "Brulhié" 2022 is ideally enjoyed at a temperature of 15°C. Decanting for one hour allows its complex aromas to fully develop. Drink by around 2030.

An Exceptional Côte de Brouilly from an Iconic Beaujolais Terroir

The Estate

Created in the 17th century by Jean-François de La Chaize d'Aix, brother of Louis XIV’s confessor, the Château de la Chaize stands as a jewel of Beaujolais. Rebuilt by Versailles architects Jules Hardouin-Mansart and André Le Nôtre, this historic monument, listed in 1972, has belonged to the Gruy family since 2017. This 450-hectare estate primarily cultivates gamay, combining exceptional royal heritage with centuries-old winemaking tradition on the slopes of Odenas.

The Vineyard

The Côte de Brouilly Lieu-dit "Brulhié" comes from an exceptional 2-hectare plot located on the steep slopes of Mont Brouilly. South-facing with a 28% gradient, these vines, averaging 70 years old, thrive between 400 and 425 meters of altitude. The terroir is distinguished by its unique composition of Brouilly diorite, an andesitic rock locally known as "pierre bleue", which gives this Beaujolais wine its characteristic minerality.

Winemaking and Aging

The parcel-by-parcel winemaking of the Lieu-dit "Brulhié" 2022 emphasizes the terroir’s expression. Hand harvesting was followed by a winemaking process including 30% whole clusters, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. An 8-day maceration in stainless steel vats with pump-overs and rack-and-return, without punching down, preserved the fruit’s finesse. Eight months of aging in oak foudres added structure and complexity without masking the terroir’s expression.

Grape Variety

This Côte de Brouilly is 100% gamay.
