    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Lieu-dit "La Chapelle des Bois" 2022 from Château de la Chaize

    Tasting

    Color
The color displays a beautiful, brilliant ruby hue.

    Nose
The bouquet reveals an enticing, airy aromatic palette with notes of violet, lavender, and ripe strawberries. Summer red fruit aromas express themselves delicately, accompanied by floral nuances and cherry that lend the wine a charming, fresh character.

    Palate
On the palate, this wine unveils juicy fruits of fine maturity, lightly sun-kissed without excess. Red fruits dominate with Burlat cherry, crushed strawberry, and a few blackberry notes, enhanced by a hint of spice. The texture is round, velvety, and pulpy with polished tannins. A delicate bitterness on the finish, characteristic of granitic soils, brings a distinctive mineral signature.

    Food and wine pairings

This Fleurie is a perfect companion for a summer lunch with grilled white meats, roasted poultry, or mushroom-based dishes. Its freshness and fruity character also make it an excellent match for delicate charcuterie and soft cheeses.

    Service and aging

The Lieu-dit "La Chapelle des Bois" 2022 is best enjoyed at 15°C. This wine can be appreciated now for its freshness and vibrant fruit, but it also has good cellaring potential until around 2030.

An exceptional Fleurie from a granitic terroir in Beaujolais

    The estate

Created in 1676 by Jean-François de La Chaize d'Aix, brother of Louis XIV’s confessor, the Château de la Chaize spans 150 hectares in Beaujolais. Designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and André Le Nôtre, this listed historic monument is one of the largest estates in the region. Owned by the Gruy family since 2017, it continues a centuries-old winemaking tradition with exceptional architectural heritage.

    The vineyard

The Lieu-dit "La Chapelle des Bois" covers 1 hectare in the Fleurie appellation. The vineyard enjoys an ideal southwest exposure and rests on coarse sandy soils dotted with granite stones. The vines, averaging 40 years of age, draw from this unique terroir their mineral character and aromatic finesse that are so characteristic of this exceptional parcel.

    The vintage

The year 2022 in Beaujolais was marked by a particularly hot and dry summer that significantly reduced yields. These arid conditions nevertheless allowed for an exceptional concentration of fruit, giving rise to wines of remarkable richness and aromatic intensity.

    Winemaking and aging

Winemaking for the Lieu-dit "La Chapelle des Bois" 2022 is carried out by parcel with 75 % whole clusters. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts during an 11-day maceration. A 12-month aging in foudre allows the wine to develop its complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit and expression of the granitic terroir.

    Grape variety

    100 % Gamay Noir.
