Description
A harmonious and structured Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé by Château Faugères
The estate
The terroir of Château Faugères dates back to the 19th century. In 1987, it was inherited by Pierre-Bernard Guisez and his wife, who, with the collaboration of Michel Rolland, transformed this vineyard into one of the jewels of the appellation Saint-Émilion by instilling a pursuit of quality and their desire to exalt a unique terroir.
The vineyard
The vineyard of this Grand Cru Classé covers 37 hectares in the Saint-Émilion appellation. The vineyard is managed under sustainable farming practices.
The vintage
A particularly rainy winter was followed by a very mild spring, encouraging high downy mildew pressure. Thanks to the dry and warm conditions in mid-May, flowering was even and early. From June 19, rainfall gave way to dry and cool weather until mid-July, which marked the start of véraison. Strong heat waves were recorded until mid-August, when much-needed storms allowed the ripening process to resume. The grapes, harvested about ten days earlier than average, are tannic, deeply colored, and perfectly balanced.
Vinification and aging
28 days of maceration. Aging lasts 12 months (50% in new French oak barrels, 50% in one-wine barrels).
Blend
Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (21%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (9%).
