    Description

The concentrated richness of a Margaux Cru Classé

    The estate

Located on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Giscours is a historic property in the Margaux appellation, with vines first planted in the 16th century. This superb Margaux 3rd Cru Classé is a true flagship of the Bordeaux region, with its distinctive neoclassical palace architecture, its park of rare species and its buildings, including the beautiful "Ferme Suzanne." Since 1995, Château Giscours has entered a new era in its history following its acquisition by the Albada Jelgersma family.

    The vineyard

The Château Giscours vineyard covers 95 hectares of vines in production, out of a total of 300 hectares. A real jewel in the crown of the Margaux appellation, the special feature of the Château Giscours terroir lies in the presence of 3 deep Garonne gravel hilltops, which play a decisive role in the grapes' ripening cycle.

    Winemaking and ageing

Harvested by hand, the grapes were vinified in concrete and stainless steel vats. Aged for 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new. Racking every 3 months by candlelight.

    Blend

    Cabernet Sauvignon (81%)
    Merlot (19%).

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Giscours 2016

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour is very dark, almost ink-like, suggesting a great density to the wine.

    Nose
From the outset, the nose expresses black fruit aromas without excess, but remains somewhat restrained due to its concentration. Swirling, however, confirms the wine's aromatic richness.

    Palate
On the palate, the tannins are dense and elegant. This wine's obvious uprightness leaves an impression of restrained power. A very Cabernet Sauvignon style, high-class and remarkably precise.
