Château Giscours 2017

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Giscours offers pretty plum preserves, warm cassis and wilted roses scents with fragrant earth and cinnamon stick hints. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant and plush with lovely expressiveness and a bit of spice on the finish.

A savory edge leads the way here, featuring a mix of red and black cherry fruit infused with black tea and juniper notes. The silky finish lets everything linger easily in unison. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2030. 17,500 cases made.

The 2017 Giscours is the result of an especially stringent selection, the most dramatic at the property going back to 1995. Medium in body, with terrific freshness and energy, the 2017 shows very well today. Dark red cherry, red plum, spice, licorice, tobacco and savory herbs all grace the glassy, understated Giscours. I can't wait to see how the 2017 ages given its vibrancy and terrific sense of harmony.

Beautiful, elegant, fresh, refined and silky, this medium-bodied effort shows off its floral character and energetic, ripe red fruit with ease. This will age quite nicely.

Deep dark ruby, with purple reflections, and a delicate bright rim. On the nose, discreet fine oak nuances, with a touch of chocolate, and dark cherry fruit with tobacco in the background. Juicy, with nice nougat, sweet plum fruit, integrated tannins, good freshness, persistence, and fine toasty aromas on the finish. It is a nicely developed wine.

Garnet with ruby highlights. A seductive perfume of blackberries, morello cherry juice and café au lait, followed by perfumed pipe tobacco, herbal candy and blueberry jelly. On the palate, in a Burgundian style, with a silky texture; ripe, supportive tannins paired with brilliant verve that gives the wine tremendous finesse. In the focused, introverted finish, lingonberries and juniper, ending with a delicate astringency. Bordeaux lovers will soon find a lot to enjoy here!

Sweet blackberry and loganberry fruit, a little soft through the mid-palate; this lacks concentration on the finish if you are comparing it to the previous vintage, and yet it is sappy, cheerful and enjoyable, with sage and rosemary spice, plenty of lift and a mouthwatering finish. Carefully constructed, leans into the vintage without sacrificing its Margaux typicity. 41 hl/ha yield after frost in some parts of the vineyard. Beautiful color, generous nose but still a bit simple for the cru, good body, slightly severe tannins, a wine with potential to revisit in three years.

2017 is a refined and delicate Margaux, with juicy fruit and nicely-coated tannins. A very indulgent and seductive expression of the cru.

A hedonistic, sophisticated bouquet. Rich and full-bodied on the palate, a generous wine brimming with confidence. A velvety texture and a pleasantly long finish, with a savory aftertaste that makes you want to pour another glass.

The nose is fresh, racy, mineral, aromatic and powerful, offering elegance, fine intensity and depth. It reveals notes of blackberry, strawberry and small red berries, combined with small notes of lily/lilac, as well as fine/discreet touches of toast, almond, grey pepper and racy minerality. The palate is fresh, fruity, balanced, elegant, racy, very discreetly tight, and offers good definition, a fine acidic backbone, juiciness, a touch of tension, lovely freshness, racy minerality, fine straightness, energy, a lovely smoothness, precision and crunch. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of crunchy red berries, fleshy raspberry and, more slightly, cherry and juicy blackcurrant, combined with discreet floral hints, a very discreet touch of juicy blueberry, subtle hints of sweet spices, a very discreet touch of toast/cola and ripe almond. The tannins are fine and finely plush. A very discreet hint of toasted bread and an imperceptible hint of tonka bean linger on the finish.

Dark, intense, beautiful red color. Very aromatic, refined nose with ripe, complex fruit. Creamy, fragrant nuance. Ultra-silky and delicate on the attack, juicy and perfumed mid-palate, hedonistic; the wine caresses the palate and moves with sap towards a slightly firm, yet always aromatic finish. It’s very good. Blend: 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot.

This wine is rich with tannins and ripe black fruits. A core of lusciousness gives the wine weight and density. It will be a fine wine to drink from 2024.
