Description
A precise and harmonious Pauillac wine
The property
Founded in the 18th century, the Château Haut-Bages Libéral is an emblematic wine estate of Bordeaux, located on the Bages plateau in Pauillac. With 30 hectares of vineyards, it benefits from clay-limestone gravel soils and deep gravels. Since 1983, Claire Villars-Lurton has been managing the fifth Grand Cru Classé in 1855.
The vineyard
Covering an area of 30 hectares, the vineyard of this Pauillac property rests on two types of soils: clay-limestone gravels and deep gravels, offering ideal conditions for the development of Bordeaux grape varieties.
The vintage
The year 2024 began with a mild and rainy winter, followed by a wet spring. The summer was marked by moderate water stress, favorable for the maturation of the grapes. The months of September and October experienced stormy episodes, alternating with cool nights and sunny and windy days, conditions conducive to optimal maturation of the berries.
Vinification and aging
Vinification is carried out on a parcel-by-parcel basis, respecting the specificities of each terroir. Maceration lasts 23 days at temperatures between 18°C and 24°C, with the use of neutral gas for gentle extraction. Pressing is vertical. Aging extends over 18 months, divided between 40% new barrels, 40% barrels of one wine and 20% in concrete ovoid tanks.
Blend
The Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2024 is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc.
