    Vinum

Ripe-fruited on the nose, herbs over plum and cassis, subtle toasted notes; compact on the palate, straightforward, with crisp fruit, slightly powdery tannins and fine acidity; medium-length finish, ending on sour cherry and a hint of blood orange.

    Decanter

Red fruits, punchy and bright straight away, with great energy and liveliness. It shines from the glass yet has texture too. Sleek and lightly framed, not heavy or overly rich, but balanced with a more mineral underpinning—graphite, pencil shavings, wet stones and saltiness. Precision meets density for the vintage, finishing mineral. Quite light overall, but there’s length and a real bitter orange peel aspect on the finish. Detailed. Cherry and some plum fruit. Bite and tang. Aged 60% new oak for 16 months in French oak barrels. pH 3.63.

    Le Figaro Vin

The nose, heady and sensual, reveals a harmonious array of vibrant fruits: red, blue, and black. Notes of raspberry fruit paste and candied cherry promise sweetness and softness. Like a confection, the palate is an ode to crisp fresh fruit, both sweet and tangy. The texture, silky and luminous, opulent and generous, brings joy before a mouthwatering, almost saline finish. A harmonious whole.

    Jane Anson

Deep vibrant plum purple colour, liquorice bud, cassis bud, spiced blackberry and sage, fresh with austerity but balanced by juice running through the palate, well handled. 60% new oak. 3.63 pH, harvest September 25 to October 8. 90% of the estate's 50 year old vines are in here, plus the more recent Petit Verdot plantings.

    Jean-Marc Quarin

    Jean-Marc Quarin

Deep dark red colour with garnet highlights. Intense nose with ripe fruit. The palate is finely textured from the attack, then the wine unfolds with great aromatic expression and a classy, polished mouthfeel. It melts into the finish, juicy, savoury and sappy. Very good. Blend: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 12.9% – pH: 3.63 – IPT: 70. Yield: around 42 hl/ha.

The precision and silky touch of a Pauillac wine

    The property

Fifth Grand Cru Classé in the Official Classification of 1855, the Château Haut-Batailley is a reference of the Pauillac appellation. Its name is derived from the word "battle", in memory of the battles that would have taken place on the estate at the end of the Hundred Years War, in the 15th century.

Since 2017, Château Haut-Batailley has been managed by the Cazes family who continues the work initiated by the Borie family since 1930 and perpetuates the style and quality of this essential cru of the Médoc, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.

    The vineyard

The terroir of Château Haut-Batailley extends over about forty hectares south of the Pauillac appellation, on the border of Saint-Julien. Improving biodiversity is one of the important challenges led by the Cazes family and is notably reflected in the implementation of agroforestry plantations. Thus, in 2022, 910 trees and shrubs from 14 different varieties were planted in the heart of the vineyard.

    The vintage

The mild and rainy winter led to an early bud break, followed by a wet spring requiring constant vigilance to preserve the vineyard. The dry and temperate summer, with cool nights, allowed a regular maturation of the berries, combining freshness and balance. The harvest, from September 25 to October 8, was meticulously spread out and sorted to keep only the best grapes. This vintage illustrates the know-how of Château Haut-Batailley, giving birth to harmonious, elegant wines promised to a beautiful evolution.

    Vinification and aging

Manual harvest accompanied by sorting in the vineyard and then on the table. Aging for 16 months in French oak barrels (60% new).

    Blend

    Cabernet sauvignon (68 %)
    Merlot (26 %)
    Petit verdot (6 %).
