A Pomerol Wine with Silky Tannins and Remarkable Concentration

    The Estate

Gradually established by the Léglise family, originally from Libourne, around the mid-18th century, Château L’Évangile was quickly regarded as « Premier Cru du Haut-Pomerol ». After being owned by the Ducasse family, it was in 1990 that Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite acquired it, determined to elevate the wine to its highest level. From the vineyard to the cellar, Château L’Évangile underwent significant restructuring and modernization that allowed the estate to shine among the finest references of the Pomerol appellation.

    The Vineyard

The vineyard of Château L'Evangile benefits from an exceptional terroir in Pomerol, composed of sandy-clay soils over a ferruginous subsoil. This privileged location, close to the prestigious Pétrus and Cheval Blanc, gives the wines a unique identity and a distinctive minerality characteristic of this exceptional Bordeaux appellation.

    The Vintage

The year 2010 began with a fairly wet winter, followed by a favorable spring from early April. Summer was characterized by warm, dry conditions, punctuated by some rainfall in June and September. The high temperatures combined with cool nights favored a slow and optimal ripening of the grapes. The lack of summer rain reduced yields but allowed for excellent maturity and tannic expression.

    Winemaking and Aging

Plot-based vinification. Alcoholic fermentation lasts about 10 days in temperature-controlled cement vats, followed by a maceration of 27 to 30 days. Malolactic fermentation is carried out entirely in new barrels, and aging continues for 18 months in new barrels from the Tonnellerie des Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite.

    Blend

88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc.
