    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Château L'Évangile 2017

    Tasting

    Color
The color displays a deep purple hue with garnet reflections.

    Nose
Dense and powerful, the bouquet reveals aromas of red fruits accompanied by notes of cedar and sage.

    Palate
The attack on the palate reveals a remarkable balance between power and freshness. The silky tannins provide breadth and elegance, while the finish lingers on notes of cocoa bean.

An exceptional Pomerol wine with a unique character

    The estate
Gradually established by the Léglise family from Libourne around the mid-18th century, the Château L’Évangile was rapidly recognized as a « Premier Cru du Haut-Pomerol ». After belonging to the Ducasse family, it was in 1990 that Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite acquired it, eager to elevate the cru to its highest level. From the vineyard to the winery, Château L’Évangile underwent significant restructuring and modernizations that have enabled the estate to shine among the finest references of the Pomerol appellation.

    The vineyard
Located on the right bank plateau of the Dordogne, approximately 40 kilometers northeast of Bordeaux, the Pomerol vineyard spans about 22 hectares. The terroir is distinguished by its clay soils covered with a superficial gravel layer, imparting the wines with their distinctive character.

    The vintage
The 2017 vintage was marked by spring frosts that required meticulous selection and sorting. Despite these challenging conditions, the vintage is characterized by a remarkable balance combining aromatic freshness, quality tannins, and length on the palate.

    Vinification and aging
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled cement vats for about 10 days. Maceration lasts approximately 27 days. Malolactic fermentation and aging occur in new oak barrels from the Tonnellerie des Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, lasting 18 months.

    Grape variety
    Merlot (100%).
