Château Langoa Barton 2015

Graphite and concentrated dark forest fruits, powerful and intense. Silky tannins and a very fine structure on the palate, fantastic, wrapped around a very elegant fruit–acidity core. Very long finish. Fantastic.

A fresh and vibrant style, with streaks of pastis-soaked plum and boysenberry fruit coursing through, carried by graphite and licorice snap notes and ending with a vigorous, juicy finish. Approachable a bit earlier than the main pack, but there's no rush either. Best from 2019 through 2038. 7,500 cases made.

Deep, rich ruby in colour, this shows a gentle nose layering redcurrant jelly and smoked oak. On the palate, it has an enjoyably frank expression, a touch less austere than some from St-Julien in this vintage, without sacrificing ageing potential. 60% new oak.

Layered and juicy 2015 with currants, light chocolate and cedar character. It’s full-bodied, round-textured and very pretty. Extremely long and flavorful. So friendly and bright. Drink or hold.

We were shown a special illustrated label for the 2021 Langoa commissioned by Damien Barton to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Barton purchase of Langoa, the family's first property in the Médoc. Anthony B died while it was being designed so features on it in a small way, with his dog. Very dark crimson. Wonderfully perfumed, almost Margaux-like, nose and lovely, silky texture. Gorgeous. What a nice surprise the 2015 Langoa-Barton is. Racy, silky and forward, the 2015 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Succulent red cherry and pomegranate fruit are nicely lifted by floral and spice notes that add aromatic intensity and layers of flavor. Silky tannins add to the wine's considerable immediacy and sheer appeal.

Firm, structured, classic and fresh, with a vibrancy to the sweet cassis, herb, cedar and tobacco notes. The wine is full-bodied, concentrated, and offers a spicy cassis and cedar character. This should age quite well over the years.

Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, subtle rim brightening, light tobacco, fresh cherry fruit, some nougat, savoury nuances. Medium complexity, a touch of red berries, delicate cassis, mineral-salty, slender finish, red cherries on the back palate.

A wine that overdelivers in the appellation is the 2015 Château Langoa Barton, which is largely Cabernet Sauvignon yet includes 38% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. Brought up in 60% new oak, it boasts a deep purple color and smokin’ good notes of caramelized cherries, crème de cassis, toasty oak, and graphite. Big, full-bodied, concentrated, and structured, with awesome purity of fruit as well as notable elegance, it needs 3–4 years of bottle age and will keep for two to three decades. Bravo!

On the palate it offers an appealing concentration, showing backbone and good potential; it may display slightly bourgeois contours, but that is essentially its inherent style. This wine should by no means be underestimated in its youth.

Still majoring on primary fruit aromatics at 7 years old. There is a precision and a silkiness to the tannins and structure that means the black cherry and raspberry fruits remain taut and almost austere at first, before deepening out through the mid palate, gathering together richer nuances of oyster shell, cocoa bean, espresso. Great texture and depth of expression, and will really benefit from another 3 to 5 years in bottle. 70% new oak.

Langoa Barton 2015 is medium to deep garnet in color. It soars from the glass with expressive redcurrant jelly and warm cassis scents, followed by nuances of candied violets, chocolate box, and wild thyme. The medium-bodied palate is still showing a little oak with delicate berry layers and a soft texture, finishing with lovely freshness.

Sappy, with fresh notes of red and black fruits, roundness and polished tannins, it unfolds an intense, elongated palate that is both indulgent and crunchy.

A robe of beautiful density with an attractive nose of red fruits and spices. The wine is dense and tight, with a mid-palate of fine concentration, though slightly herbal as often at this stage; the tannins are present, a touch herbal as well, leading to a red-fruit finish. After maturation, it will yield a very classic wine with lovely freshness.

The bouquet of the 2015 is fresh and fruity. It reveals subtle, refreshing cherry nuances, followed by more classic markers such as graphite and cedar. The wine combines charm and density to perfection. Perfectly balanced, it will appeal to those who enjoy it in its youth and will in no way disappoint those with a little more patience… A fine success that continues to surprise me!

The nose is fine, elegant and offers a certain concentration. It reveals delicate notes of red fruits and a touch of rose, along with hints of redcurrant, blackberry, blackcurrant, Zan, forest floor, as well as discreet notes of toasted oak and a hint of mocha. The palate is fruity, precise, elegant, racy, and offers a lovely silky texture, freshness and minerality. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of blackberry and blackcurrant, combined with fine touches of raspberry/wild strawberry, Zan and a toasty hint. The tannins are well-handled, fine and elegant. Good length and persistence.

Dark, bright, intense and beautiful color. Moderately aromatic nose, delicate, fruity and perfumed. Juicy on the attack, suave as it unfolds, very fruity with a creamy touch, the wine melts on the palate with grace. It becomes powerful after the mid-palate and finishes noble, deep and above all very aromatic despite its present tannins. It’s very good.

Sometimes seen as the junior of the two properties owned by the Barton family in Saint-Julien, this is an impressive estate in its own right, especially in this superripe, smoothly rich wine. Tannins are well wrapped in the generous structure and fruits. Drink from 2025.
