Tasting characteristics and tips for Château Latour-Martillac 2025
Tasting notes
Appearance
Intense and deep, with a violet hue, it reveals remarkable concentration.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with scents of black fruits and violet, subtly enhanced by vanilla nuances and a touch of eucalyptus leaf.
Palate
The attack is supple, carried by wonderfully velvety tannins. The mid-palate unfolds with crisp black fruit, leading to a long, harmonious and refreshing finish. The whole shines through its balance, retaining a fine tension despite the sunny character of the year.
Food and wine pairings
This great wine pairs beautifully with flavoursome dishes full of character. It will enhance beef cuts, such as a roasted rib or a steak served with béarnaise sauce. It will also be a remarkable match with game meats, such as venison, whose profile harmonises perfectly with the fruity freshness of the wine.
Serving and ageing
The 2025 vintage offers interesting ageing potential. After its maturation, it can rest in the cellar for many years to reveal the full complexity of its aromas.
Other characteristics
This vintage has an alcohol content of 13.5% vol, with a pH of 3.64 and a total acidity of 3.24. The harvest yield amounts to 32 hectolitres per hectare.
The excellence of a Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé
The estate
Located south of Bordeaux, Château Latour-Martillac traces its origins back to the 12th century, but its modern history truly began with its acquisition in 1871 by the Kressmann family. This prestigious estate spans 54 hectares. Today, the property is brilliantly led by Tristan and Loïc Kressmann. The château stands out for its strong environmental commitment and its dual classification obtained in 1953, recognising both its red and white wines, a true rarity in the region.
The vineyard
Located at the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the vineyard extends over 54 hectares. The vines grow on two distinct terroirs: the Martillac plateau, composed of gravel, quartz and flint, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, and cooler clay-limestone soils near the Garonne, perfect for Merlot. The estate is certified High Environmental Value (HVE) level 3, reflecting a viticulture that respects biodiversity, including working the soil with horses on the historic plots.
The vintage
The year began with a mild and wet winter, allowing excellent water replenishment of the soils. The growing cycle started with an early and even budburst. Subsequently, a dry spring greatly limited disease pressure. Summer, marked by heat and drought, fostered fine concentration in the grapes, leading to an early harvest under optimal weather conditions.
Vinification and ageing
This vintage is aged with great care, using 20% new barrels.
Grape varieties
59% Sauvignon Blanc and 41% Sémillon.
