An Exceptional Premier Grand Cru Classé from the Margaux Appellation
The Estate
Acquired in 1977 by André Mentzelopoulos, Château Margaux spans an 82-hectare vineyard in the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux. Since late 2023, Alexis Leven-Mentzelopoulos has led this Premier Grand Cru Classé 1855 as CEO, succeeding his mother Corinne Mentzelopoulos after 43 years at the helm. His sister Alexandra Petit-Mentzelopoulos chairs the Supervisory Board. The estate stands out for its preserved family independence, its ultra-modern facilities designed by Norman Foster, and its centuries-old tradition of excellence, perfectly embodying the Bordeaux art of living.
The Vineyard
The Château Margaux vineyard benefits from a unique terroir within the Margaux appellation, recognized since the 16th century for producing one of the greatest wines in the world. This exceptional terroir, developed over generations, allows for the expression of expertise passed down from father to son, giving rise to wines of remarkable complexity, concentration and elegance.
The Vintage
The 2015 vintage stands out as a unique and exceptional year for Château Margaux. The optimal weather conditions recall those of the great years 2005, 2009 and 2010. This year also marks the bicentenary of the château's iconic architecture, built in 1815 and listed as a historic monument in 1946.
Winemaking and Aging
The winemaking of Château Margaux 2015 reflects exceptional selectivity, with only 35% of the harvest selected for the Grand Vin, representing a record level of strictness for a vintage of this caliber. This rigorous process ensures the purest expression of the estate's terroir and time-honored expertise.
Grape Varieties
The blend is composed of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, reflecting the classic expression of Margaux's great terroirs.
