    Vinum

With more Cabernet in the blend, this wine shines from the glass with pure fruit, floral notes, cherries, cassis; delicate fruit, precise oak management, polished tannins, everything in its place, clearly more linear, fresher and more tense than last year, captivating with brilliance and balance.

    Decanter

Dark blackcurrants and black cherries on the nose. Smooth and succulent, juicy and really quite bright and focused. Clean and pure, there’s good grip but lots of freshness and lift too. Tannins are still quite firm and edgy, but they do well to support the fruit and I like the chalkiness on the palate. A little subdued at this point but friendly, and it will be lovely to approach in a few years.

    Antonio Galloni

The 2023 Marquis de Terme is every bit as impressive as it was en primeur. Rich and explosive, the 2023 offers up a heady mix of dark red fruit, blood orange, incense, cinnamon and pomegranate. The stylistic direction here over the last few years has been quite positive.

Flowers, black cherries, espresso, cocoa, mint, and licorice create the perfume. On the palate, the wine is round, ripe, and creamy with a long, fruit, espresso, and cocoa note that carries from the mid-palate through to the finish. The wine will only improve with aging. Drink from 2027-2050.

    Falstaff

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections. Ripe plums, subtle meadow herbs, tobacco nuances, fresh bouquet. Medium complexity, red-berry fruit, subtle tannins, somewhat dry finish, needs time.

Glass-staining rich plum colour, this has clear structure and concentration, very much classic Left Bank in its fruit character and tannic grip, good balance, enjoyable, austere right now but will fill out through the mid-palate over ageing, and has fennel and black pepper spice to round things off with a punch. This year includes the Marojallia vines for the first time.

    Vertdevin

A lovely fruity nose, elegant, precise, mineral, with a beautifully elongated, elegant profile. It shows notes of wild blackberry, soft small fruits and, more lightly, bright raspberry, with hints of cornflower and star anise, and a touch of graphite and nutmeg. A subtle hint of infusion and vanilla. The palate is beautifully juicy, fruity, offering indulgence, precision, tension, and a zesty backbone. It reveals notes of juicy/pulpy blackberry, juicy/pulpy raspberry and, more lightly, bigarreau cherry, with touches of bright small red berries, as well as a Mediterranean hint, sweet blond tobacco, plus touches of liquorice stick and fresh hazelnut. The tannins are sapid and gourmand. Lovely texture and silky freshness, with a density that never weighs on the palate

A lively and complex red wine from Margaux

    The estate

In the heart of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux stands the Château Marquis de Terme. The origins of the vineyard date back to the 15th century but the estate will take its current name in the 18th century when the Marquis de Terme took over the reins. Since 1935, the Sénéclauze family has owned this Grand Cru of Margaux.

    The vineyard

The Château Marquis de Terme 2023 is a Margaux wine from a 45-hectare terroir. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are planted on deep gravel typical of the appellation, made up of thick quartz and quartzites. Some plots are more clayey. The vineyard is managed on a plot-by-plot basis and benefits from High Environmental Value 3 certification.

    The vintage

The warm and humid spring leads to high mildew pressure, controlled thanks to the know-how and responsiveness of the teams. This is followed by a sunny summer with high temperatures, before a September punctuated by salvific rains for the vineyard, ensuring optimal maturity of the berries.

    Vinification and ageing

Harvested manually in crates, the berries are sorted in the vineyard and in the winery. Parcel-by-parcel vinification is carried out in concrete, wood, and thermoregulated stainless steel vats, filled by gravity and without pumping. Cold pre-fermentation macerations, alcoholic fermentation under natural yeasts, accompanied by punching down. Vinification without sulphites.  Aging for 16 months in French oak barrels (including 50% new barrels).

    Blend

    Cabernet Sauvignon (68%)
    Merlot (28%)
    Petit Verdot (4%).
