The 2021 Meyney offers up notes of dark berries, dried fruits, undergrowth and toasty oak, followed by a medium-bodied, taut and somewhat astringent palate.

Shows a cedary grain that runs underneath gently steeped plum and black cherry notes, while warm earth and tobacco leaf elements run along the edges. Reveals a tangy, sanguine edge on the finish that exposes the vintage's telltale trim side, but this is pretty solid for fans of the old-school style. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2025 through 2032. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 14,377 cases made, 550 cases imported.

Smooth and gently lively, there is a nice bite to this; the fruit sits in the background—cool blueberries, cola and liquorice—while the tannins give soft tension and grip. It’s well made, clean and precise. Nothing too demonstrative, but well crafted with focus and length, if not weight and density.

The 2021 Meyney, which has been on a strong run of form of late, has a lovely bouquet with vivid red berry fruit, crushed stone and orange rind scents that are focused and lively. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured opening (as you would expect), more fruit concentration than its peers and a truffle-tinged finish. This will cruise nicely over the next 15 to 20 years.

Flowers, cherries, espresso, mint, spice and smoke create the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, round, supple, fresh and forward, allowing you to enjoy its sweet cherry and plum profile, with a peppery edge on release. The wine blends 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2025-2040.

The 2021 Château Meyney is based on 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and 12% Petit Verdot, and it's a solid 2021 with its redcurrant, cranberry, green tobacco, and cedar pencil aromas and flavors. It's medium-bodied, has a rather lean, focused texture, ripe tannins, and solid overall balance. A classy, more old-school-inspired effort from this château, it has just enough ripeness to keep it interesting and enjoyable. I followed a bottle for multiple days, and it held up admirably. This is a classic drinker to enjoy over the coming decade or so.

This has held up well with ageing, and straight away on the first nose you get depth to the red and blue fruits – still not the black fruits of a more concentrated vintage, but it’s enjoyable and sappy, a successful wine. 44 hl/ha yield. Harvest from September 24 to October 8. Anne la Naour technical director, Hubert de Bouard consultant.

The 2021 Meyney is deep garnet-purple in color. Vibrant notes of strawberries and black cherries spill from the glass, leading to touches of lavender, bay leaves, and mossy tree bark. The light to medium-bodied palate is chewy and refreshing, with crunchy red fruit and a lifted finish.

The consistency of the recent vintages is worth highlighting. After a very high-level 2020, the 2021 is also well made, with a wine of good density, still somewhat marked by its oak, but showing potential.

Meyney is highly convincing in the way it embraces the 2021 vintage and in its ability to remain true to itself, regardless of context. It is defined by its power and an energetic profile that is ideally supported by its acidic structure, while the tannins provide vigor and longevity. A fine achievement with many years ahead of it!

The nose is precise, charmingly classic yet elegant, offering power (with accuracy/finesse), good definition, a fine grain, and freshness. It reveals notes of pulpy blackcurrant, wild strawberry, and, more subtly, pulpy raspberry, together with hints of violet, saline/terroir-driven gravel, discreet touches of fresh nutmeg, and an imperceptible sappy note. The palate is fruity and offers freshness, minerality, a juicy/fresh backbone, smoothness, good definition, a certain gourmandise, precision, salinity, a lovely handling of bitters, suppleness, power, and straightness. On the palate, the wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy raspberry, small fresh/bright red berries and, more subtly, violet, combined with hints of saline/racy gravel, fresh wild blackberry, as well as discreet touches of cubeb pepper, nutmeg, a subtle hint of star anise and toast. The tannins are precise, plush, elegant, fresh, and racy. Good length.

Here is the first vintage undergoing organic conversion. It’s no surprise given how committed the team on site is, and it’s a success on the palate. A delightful nose of fully ripe Cabernets, without excessive varietal aromas, a fine yet firm chew, a sense of taut fabric, and a tasty, refreshing finish.

This wine has density and some firm tannins. From a spectacular vineyard facing the Gironde estuary, this estate produces a rich wine that needs serious aging. Drink from 2027, with its black-currant fruit and solid tannins.
