    Vinum

This wine hasn’t been a well-kept secret for some time, but it still offers a lot this year: gorgeous fruit, crisp and juicy, distinctive, finely knit tannins, tremendous drive, very elegant. Recommended.

    Decanter

Minty fresh with ripe fruit aromas, this wine has a robust palate with iodine freshness, juiciness and even a bit of pleasurable creaminess. A bit tight on the finish at this stage, but of good quality, the tannins will soften with barrel ageing. An excellent St-Estèphe!

The 2023 Meyney has an open, expressive nose with more red fruit than its appellation peers, raspberry and wild strawberry mixed with loam, later hints of blackberry. The palate is medium-bodied, with grainy tannins on the entry. Fine density, showing more grip than in barrel, with an earthy and quite sustained finish. There is promise here.

Vibrant, fresh, and creamy, the wine is all about its layers of sweet, ripe, juicy, and clean black currants, blackberries, spice, and its energetic, refreshing minty finish. This is another gem that is showing much better in the bottle than it did during the barrel tastings. Drink from 2028-2045.

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening. Nuances of cassis and mint, fresh black cherry, fine herbal savouriness, inviting bouquet. Medium body, fine red heart cherry, round tannins, mineral-salty finish, lively style.

The touch of Petit Verdot in the main estate wine makes itself felt, with its fragrant spice and deep colour. This has a ton of grip, with baking spice and liquorice, full of character, rose petals and crushed rocks, blackberry fruits. One to look out for, great stuff and great value. 55hl/ yield.

Dense and concentrated, the bouquet reveals depth and remarkable youthfulness, combining notes of licorice wood, praline, blackberries, eucalyptus and red berries. On the palate, the wine stands out for its seamless integration, its incisive character and its compact tannins that lend both power and promise. A wine driven by fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity and an energy that will carry it through the decades to come. Very good, and above all truly great!

A fresh, racy-edged style, with damson plum and bitter cherry fruit framed by a chalky edge that’s embedded nicely. Iris and violet accents gild the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2033. 16,500 cases made.

Always a classic Saint-Estèphe (and I think the quality here has stepped up a notch recently), the 2023 Château Meyney comes from a mix of gravelly and clay soils and is based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 12% Petit Verdot, aged 18 months in French oak barrels. It sports a deep purple hue as well as beautiful cassis, graphite, smoky tobacco, and crushed stone-like minerality. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a pure, focused, layered mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It's beautifully done and is going to evolve nicely over the coming 25-30 years if well stored. Drink 2029-2053.

Logo on the cork: JL (Lafitte Liège) A lovely deep red with black highlights. An intense nose with pure fruit, ripe and fresh. Supple on the attack, the wine develops a fleshy texture, with a fine, silky richness that constantly glides across the palate. It finishes long, with beautifully integrated tannins and a touch of nobility on the aromatic finish. A profile that makes you want to drink. A great success.

    Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Meyney 2023

    Tasting

This vintage seduces with its delicacy, power and great finesse.

The refinement and precision of a Saint-Estèphe wine

    The estate

Located on the left bank of Bordeaux, the Château Meyney has an exceptional location, near the estuary of the Gironde. With origins dating back to 1662, this property of the Crédit Agricole Grands Crus subsidiary has experienced a remarkable qualitative rise in recent decades. The wines of Château Meyney thus stand out among the most beautiful references of the Saint-Estèphe appellation and the Médoc.

    The vineyard

Château Meyney 2023 is a Saint-Estèphe wine from a vineyard of about fifty hectares in one piece, close to the terroir of Château Montrose. The vineyard is planted on Garonne gravel soils with a notable peculiarity. A 3-meter thick vein of blue clay, such as the one found on the terroir of Château Pétrus, is buried in the subsoil.

    Vinification and ageing

Once the manual harvest is done, the grapes are subject to a double sorting, first in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Gentle and parcel vinifications. Ageing in French oak barrels for 18 months.

    Blend

    Cabernet Sauvignon (50%)
    Merlot (38%)
    Petit Verdot (12%).
