    Description

Tasting characteristics and tips for Château Nénin 2000

    Tasting

    Color

The color displays an opaque purple hue with deep ruby highlights.

    Nose

The nose reveals beautiful aromatic complexity with notes of black fruits (blackberries, blackcurrant, cherries), complemented by nuances of black truffle and licorice. Floral and forest-floor touches round out the bouquet, while hints of chocolate and cedar lend subtle elegance.

    Palate

On the palate, this wine is powerful and full-bodied, with a silky, velvety texture. The tannins, present and well-structured, offer fine precision. The palate shows remarkable concentration of ripe black fruit, supported by a mineral backbone. The finish is long and well-built, showcasing a fine balance between power and refinement.

    Food and wine pairings

Château Nénin 2000 pairs perfectly with braised beef in red wine, tournedos Rossini, or a game stew. It also matches very well with black truffle risotto or a selection of aged cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring

Château Nénin 2000 benefits from decanting before serving to fully reveal its aromatic complexity. It is ideally enjoyed at a temperature between 16 and 18°C.

    A powerful, structured Pomerol

    The estate

Established in 1847, Château Nénin is a benchmark estate in Pomerol, north of Bordeaux, with 32 hectares of vines almost in a single block. Since its acquisition in 1997 by the Delon family, the estate has undergone a complete restructuring of both the vineyard and the cellars. The grape varieties and the diversity of soils on the Pomerol plateau shape a great age-worthy wine combining power and elegance.

    The vineyard

The Château Nénin vineyard spans 32 hectares in the heart of the Pomerol appellation. The most distinguished parcels, located on the clay-gravel plateau, benefit from optimal exposure and soils made up of Oligocene deposits covered with Dordogne alluvial gravels, combined with siliceous clays, quartz, granite fragments, and iron-rich deposits. The average age of the vines was around 27 years at the time the 2000 vintage was produced, with some parcels over 50 years old.

    The vintage

The year 2000 stands as a great vintage in Bordeaux, particularly successful on the Right Bank. Weather conditions allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes. Harvest took place between September 18 and 28, enabling a selective picking of the best parcels at ideal maturity.

    Vinification and aging

The Château Nénin 2000 harvest is carried out by hand in small crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks of varying capacities, allowing precise management of fermentation temperatures. Malolactic fermentation takes place in a dedicated room. Aging lasts 18 months in French oak barrels, with 20 to 30% new oak, giving the wine structure and complexity while preserving the expression of the fruit.
