Bright crushed berry, chocolate and liquorice aromas follow through to a full body, with ultra-refined tannins and a long, polished finish. There's a lovely texture to this wine. Best after 2013.

    Decanter

The 2006 vintage is not always generous, but it is now beginning to be fully open with Merlot-dominated wines such as Nénin, and this is at a sweet spot for drinking. Expansive blackcurrant and bilberry fruits, held firmly in place by still well-structured tannins, this is enjoyable and well-balanced, if less sleek than you find in more recent vintages of this estate.

Aromas of dried flowers and leaves with lots of dried fruits. Full and chewy. Extracted and rich. Truffles and morels. Dried fruits. Begin drinking.

Tasted blind. Blackish ruby. Lacks freshness on the nose but is much fresher on the palate. A little simple but lots of fruit and no excess of tannin. Quite forward. (JR)

Good bright ruby-red. Dark fruits, bitter chocolate, minerals and violet on the lively nose. Dense, chewy and rather serious, with sweet, slightly medicinal dark berry flavours complicated by a note of leather. Surprisingly pliant for such a brooding wine. Finishes with fairly fine-grained, broad tannins.

Medium-deep garnet-ruby colour, with a delicate rim at the edge. An inviting, refreshing blackberry bouquet, with fine noble wood notes behind. On the palate dense and refined, soft contours, creamy tannins, then nicely supportive on the finish. Never has a young Nenin been so fine and powerful at the same time, close to 18/20.

Medium-deep garnet-ruby, a fine rim at the edge. A warmly expressive, refreshing blackberry bouquet, with delicate fine oak notes behind. On the palate dense and refined, soft contours, creamy tannins that still provide lovely support on the finish. Again, a new Nenin so fine and powerful at the same time. Close to 18/20.

Fruity, velvety, sweet bouquet with cherries and toasty notes. Velvety, sweet palate with plenty of dry tannins, medium structure, soft fruit. Drying finish. 17/20 2012 - 2025

Blackcurrant nose with a spicy touch, this wine is admirable on the mid-palate, then the tannins lengthen and build tension. It proves superior to the 2005.

This Nénin 2006 is in great form! A bouquet of good intensity revealing notes of dark berry fruit, cherries and cedar. Lovely freshness. Silky, dense character on the palate. The tannins are supple, with a very fine grain, and are perfectly integrated. They lend breadth as well as power across the palate and ideally support the finish. A very fine success from Nénin with sufficient substance to ensure a promising future.

There is great depth of fruit here, combined with the velvet textures that come from ripe Merlot. At the same time, this wine has a structure at its heart surrounded by that generous, delicious, blackberry fruit flavor.

    Robert M. Parker, Jr.

The finest vintage since 2000, the 2006 Nenin comes across as a classic Pomerol with lush kirsch liqueur, mocha, mineral, and floral characteristics. Made in a muscular, rich, full-bodied style with moderate tannins as well as impeccable purity, texture, and length, it should drink well between 2012-2025. Owned by Jean-Hubert Delon, of the renowned St.-Julien estate of Leoville Las Cases, Nenin is situated adjacent to the city of Libourne.

    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Château Nénin 2006

    Tasting

    Color
This wine reveals a beautiful deep ruby red hue, gently enriched with garnet highlights over the years. Its brightness and visual density reflect a fine concentration.

    Nose
Particularly expressive, the bouquet opens with aromas of well-ripened black fruits such as cherry, plum and blackcurrant. Over time, it reveals a beautiful tertiary complexity blending notes of cedar, undergrowth, blond tobacco and truffle, all underscored by delicate spicy and floral touches.

    Palate
The attack is fresh and silky, introducing a dense, solidly structured texture. The tannins, remarkably fine, are now perfectly smooth and integrated. The whole is ample and powerful, extending into a persistent finish marked by black fruit and an elegant mineral thread.

    Food and Wine Pairing
This vintage pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted red meats, such as beef fillet or a rack of lamb. Its aromatic complexity also enhances slow-cooked dishes, furred or feathered game, as well as recipes featuring mushrooms or truffle. To end the meal, well-aged hard cheeses will accompany it perfectly.

    Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate this vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 17 and 18°C. Aerating it for one to two hours before tasting, or gently decanting it, will be beneficial. Having reached a fine maturity, this wine can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2030.

    Other Characteristics
This vintage has an alcohol content of 13.79%. Its total acidity is 3.21 g H2SO4/l, with a pH of 3.65 and a total polyphenol index (TPI) of 67.

The Elegance and Power of a Great Pomerol Wine

    The Estate
Located in the renowned wine region of Bordeaux, the estate was founded in the 18th century under the impetus of the Demay family. Today, this prestigious estate is run by Jean-Hubert Delon, whose family acquired the property in 1997. With its 32 hectares, the estate stands out for its exceptionally large size for the appellation. Thanks to major restructuring carried out by the current owners, the estate is now renowned for producing age-worthy wines that harmoniously combine power, freshness and refinement.

    The Vineyard
The vines flourish on the southwest-facing slopes of the highest plateau in Pomerol. This exceptional terroir consists of deep gravel and clay, resting on a subsoil rich in iron-rich crasse de fer. The top of the plateau is dominated by clay, while the slopes are more gravelly. Around 27 years old, the vines are harvested by hand. This mosaic of soils gives the grapes natural power, great freshness and beautiful tannic finesse.

    The Vintage
The year began with a rather cool spring, followed by a mild May that allowed for optimal flowering. The summer season was marked by a particularly hot July, contrasting with a dry and refreshingly cool August. Early September brought warm, dry weather, punctuated by a few timely showers just before the harvest, which took place under excellent conditions between September 12th and 21st.

    Winemaking and Ageing
After a rigorous manual sorting, the grapes from the different plots are vinified separately to preserve the identity of each terroir. The blend is then crafted with precision. The wine is finally given a meticulous aging in barrels, with the proportion of new oak carefully adjusted to enhance the fruit without masking it.
