    Description

The elegance and precision of a Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac

    The estate

5th Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, the Château Pontet-Canet has experienced an irresistible rise that makes it one of the most emblematic brands of the Médoc. Managed by Justine and Alfred Tesseron, Château Pontet-Canet has established itself as one of the pioneers of biodynamics in the Pauillac appellation with results exceeding all expectations. From vintage to vintage, the estate stands out as one of the most beautiful references of the left bank of Bordeaux.

    The vineyard

A reference among the great wines of Pauillac, Château Pontet-Canet watches over vines maintained with the utmost respect for the environment. These are worked with horses to avoid soil compaction. Biodynamics is applied on the estate. Through their work and knowledge of the vineyard, the technical teams of the estate help the vine to give its best.

    The vintage

After a mild and very wet winter, the vine started early under optimal conditions, favored by water-saturated soils. However, heavy rains in April led to the first attacks of mildew. The spring, rainy and cool, required constant vigilance to contain the disease. A lull from May 22 allowed a recovery, and flowering took place under good conditions. But the mid-June storms revived the pressure of mildew. Despite these challenges, rigorous work in the vineyard limited the loss of grapes. The summer, dry and sunny, favored the quality of the vintage. The color change took place under a stable climate and in line with seasonal norms. The progressive water stress, induced by the drought, eliminated the herbaceous aromas in favor of a more marked fruity expression. Despite unstable weather from the end of August, the harvest was carried out with patience and discernment. The choice to wait for the full maturity of the grapes proved wise, preserving the qualitative potential of the vintage, destined to become a great wine.

    Vinification and aging

The aging is carried out 50% in new barrels, 35% in concrete amphorae and 15% in barrels of one wine.

    Blend

This Château Pontet-Canet 2024 is the result of a blend of cabernet sauvignon (52%), merlot (43%), petit verdot (4%) and cabernet franc (1%).
