Description
A refined, beautifully structured Saint-Julien red wine
The estate
Owned by the Henri Martin estates, the Château Saint-Pierre is a Fourth Growth (Grand Cru Classé) from Saint-Julien. Under the impetus of the dynamic Henri Martin, the Château Saint-Pierre vineyard as it existed in 1855 was patiently reassembled. Today, this estate ranks among the most renowned benchmarks of this emblematic appellation.
The vineyard
Château Saint-Pierre is a Saint-Julien wine from a vineyard covering 17 hectares. Holding ISO 140001 and HVE 3 certification, the Henri Martin estates, including Château Saint-Pierre, are farmed using sustainable viticulture, with the use of organic and biocontrol products.
The wine
2021 is the estate’s first vintage undergoing organic conversion and biodynamic practices.
The vintage
A mild, cool winter encourages early budburst. While the vineyard is spared from frost thanks to its proximity to the estuary and the quality of its terroir, spring and summer conditions are marked by low sunshine and significant rainfall. The teams’ rigor helped preserve the vineyard’s sanitary conditions. Great clemency throughout September and October, along with marked day-to-night temperature swings, proved beneficial for the vineyard.
Vinification and ageing
The ageing takes place in barrels, with 55% new oak.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (70%)
Merlot (14%)
Cabernet franc (9%)
Petit verdot (7%).
