    Food and wine pairings

This Saint-Émilion red wine pairs well with grilled or sauced red meats, as well as aged cheeses.

A Saint-Émilion red wine in an opulent style

    The estate

Located in Saint-Laurent-des-Combes within the Saint-Émilion appellation, Château Tertre Roteboeuf spans 6 hectares of vineyards on south/southeast-facing clay-limestone slopes. Taken over in the late 1970s by François Mitjavile, who now runs the estate alongside his wife Émilie, the property produces around 27,000 bottles each year. The singularity of this Bordeaux wine lies in its artisanal approach to viticulture: very low-trained vines, grass cover between rows, late hand-harvesting, fermentation without added yeasts, and extended aging in new oak barrels, revealing the most accomplished expression of Bordeaux hillside wines.

    The vineyard

The Château Tertre Roteboeuf vineyard covers around 6 hectares in Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, at the heart of the Saint-Émilion appellation. The vines are planted on slopes with clay-limestone soils that provide the freshness conducive to late harvesting, allowing the grapes to reach optimal ripeness.

    The vintage

The 1979 vintage in Bordeaux is marked by an abundant harvest. Climatic conditions favored high yields, resulting in wines defined more by elegance than by concentration.

    Vinification and aging

Château Tertre Roteboeuf 1979 underwent minimalist vinification in concrete tanks, followed by aging in 100% new oak barrels. This meticulous approach aims to reveal the opulent, ripe character that is emblematic of the estate’s style.
