Clos René 2025

Super ripe aromas on the nose, smells a little too ripe and perfumed really. But very aromatic. Plush and chewy on the palate with ripe fruit, but also a little oaky tannins that distract from the fruit at this point. Acidity and energy are there but this will need some time to come around. A touch spiced on the finish, just a bit more charged than some.

Truffle, chocolate, and black cherries create the core of this wine in the nose, and on the palate. Fresh, and fruity with a lively, berry packed, medium-bodied, round-textured finish. The wine blends 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec. Drink from 2028-2045. 90-92 Pts

Deep plum, intense kick of spice, grilled oak notes, old school Pomerol that is delivering sinewy, muscular wine that has plenty to recommend. Old vines at 45 years average, 16ha, planted to 75 Merlot, 20 Cabernet Franc and 5 Malbec, vintage blend not given.

With good intensity, the bouquet of Clos René clearly reveals its ageing, while also showing fruity and floral nuances. Slightly suave on the attack, the wine has velvety tannins that bring a touch of breadth and vigor. They are in tune with the acidic structure that underpins the freshness and the fruity expression of the finish. The whole still needs to come together and gain in harmony, but it remains very pleasing. I hadn’t tasted Clos René this well in a long time…
