    Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Meursault 1er Cru "Perrières" 2020 from Domaine Albert Grivault

    Tasting

    Appearance

The appearance displays a brilliant golden yellow hue.

    Nose

The aromatic bouquet is complex and evolving. It reveals notes of citrus, crisp pear, and green apple, accompanied by delicate floral nuances. Touches of chalk, toasted wood, and popcorn complete this refined olfactory palette, while quince aromas add an extra dimension.

    Palate

The palate presents a medium to generous volume, with remarkable definition and beautiful mineral tension. The balance is perfect between vibrant freshness and fruit maturity, supported by classic acidity. Notes of mandarin and spice are revealed on the retro-olfaction. The finish offers depth and persistence, with a well-defined structure that testifies to the potential of this wine.

    Food and wine pairings

This Meursault 1er Cru "Perrières" 2020 pairs harmoniously with white meats in sauce, seafood, and shellfish prepared with cream. It also goes wonderfully with a white truffle risotto, a veal blanquette, or sweetbreads. For a cheese pairing, opt for an Époisses.

    Service and cellaring

The Meursault 1er Cru "Perrières" 2020 can be appreciated now and will continue to evolve favorably for approximately 5 to 10 years. The best vintages of this climat can reach their peak beyond 20 years.

An exceptional Meursault 1er Cru from Domaine Albert Grivault in Burgundy

    The estate

Founded in 1875, Domaine Albert Grivault distinguished itself as early as 1897 with a gold medal at the Concours Agricole de Paris. Located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune, this family estate spans approximately 6 hectares, with over 5 hectares dedicated to white wines. Since 2004, Claire Bardet has managed the estate, assisted by Henri Marc for vinification. The estate is distinguished by its ownership of the Clos des Perrières, a one-hectare monopole considered the optimal part of Meursault's best Premier Cru, and also holds 2.54 hectares of the Perrières climat, making it the main owner of this prestigious appellation.

    The vineyard

The Perrières climat benefits from a south/south-east exposure at 260 meters altitude, in a geological position similar to that of the Montrachets. The terroir is composed of clay (46%), silt (30%), and sand (24%), with half being a Bathonian Jurassic outcrop and half colluvium. This exceptional geological situation confers unique characteristics upon the wines of Meursault Perrières. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, respectful of the environment and the terroir.

    The vintage

The 2020 vintage is characterized by a balanced harvest, completed in eight days for the white wines. According to the estate, the wines present remarkable balance and floral expression. The 2020 displays acidity similar to the 2017 vintage and power recalling that of 2019, thus offering beautiful fruit maturity supported by classic acidity consistent with the expectations of a great Burgundy vintage.

    Winemaking and aging

The Meursault 1er Cru "Perrières" 2020 is vinified according to traditional methods prioritizing the expression of the terroir. The grapes are pressed as whole bunches, then fermentation takes place in mainly used barrels, without sulfur until after malolactic fermentation. The estate distinguishes itself by a delicate choice of oak barrels, favoring more seasoned barrels rather than new oak, thus valuing slow and sober aeration. No lees stirring is practiced, allowing the purity and finesse of the wine to be preserved.
