The estate
Founded in 1875, Domaine Albert Grivault represents nearly 150 years of viticultural excellence in the heart of Meursault. That year, Albert Grivault acquired the prestigious Clos des Perrières, a one-hectare monopole considered the finest Premier Cru in Meursault. Today, the estate is managed by Claire Bardet and her brother Henri Marc Bardet, representing the fourth generation of the family. The estate cultivates approximately six hectares of contiguous vines, producing white wines from Burgundy recognized for their mineral expression and aging potential. The family has preserved an approach respectful of the terroir while maintaining high quality standards.
The vineyard
The Clos du Murger covers approximately 1.66 hectares in the heart of the village of Meursault, immediately adjacent to the estate's family residence. This enclosed vineyard, surrounded by walls over two meters high, benefits from a south-south-west exposure that protects it from cold winds. The vines, planted in the early 1970s, are now around fifty years old. The soil is characterized by a clay-limestone composition with a significant presence of grey limestone stones called "murgers," which give the lieu-dit its name and contribute to the distinctive mineral character of the wines produced on this plot.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage proved particularly favorable for white wines from Burgundy. The harvest began in August under good conditions. Fermentations took place quickly and easily, resulting in balanced wines. This vintage harmoniously combines freshness and concentration, offering wines boasting beautiful structuring acidity and remarkable aromatic power. The weather conditions allowed optimal maturity to be reached while preserving the characteristic vibrancy of the appellation.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Meursault Village "Clos du Murger" 2020 are vinified using an approach that respects the terroir, favoring the natural expression of the fruit. Aging takes place mainly in oak barrels that are five years old or more, with only about 20% new oak for the Premier Crus, ensuring that the mineral character of the terroir remains in the foreground. Bottling was carried out during the summer of 2021, after approximately nine to ten months of aging. This period allows the wine to develop its complexity while preserving its freshness.
