A lively and aromatic Marsannay wine

    The estate

Founded in 1979 by Bruno Clair, Domaine Bruno Clair is a renowned estate in Burgundy. Located in Marsannay-la-Côte, it now spans 27 hectares across 32 appellations and 8 villages. Heir to a long winemaking lineage, Bruno Clair currently runs the estate alongside his children, Edouard, Arthur and Margaux. Valued for its respectful approach to the soil and its mastery of winemaking, the family produces wines that precisely reflect the diversity of the terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune.

    The vineyard

The vines destined for this Marsannay flourish on slopes facing east and south-east, at an altitude of around 300 metres. With an average age of about 50 years, they are planted on clay-limestone soils. The estate favours a highly sustainable approach to viticulture, avoiding chemical herbicides and instead promoting cover crops and the use of organic manure to preserve the vitality of the soil. Guyot-Poussard pruning is also practised to ensure the longevity of the vines.

    The vintage

Described by the estate as an almost perfect season, the year benefited from highly favourable climatic conditions, allowing for optimal balance. With normal yields, this vintage is characterised by a lovely density, combining fully achieved ripeness with preserved freshness.

    Winemaking and ageing

The making of this 2023 Marsannay begins with fermentation initiated by indigenous yeasts in open wooden vats, using a significant proportion of whole clusters. After around fifteen days of maceration at a moderate temperature and gentle extraction, the wine is transferred to barrel. Ageing then takes place over a period of 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, approximately 20% of which are new.

    Grape variety

    Pinot Noir (100%).
