Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru 2020 from Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a translucent ruby colour, both vivid and bright.
Nose
Of remarkable purity, the nose unveils a complex bouquet of black and red fruits such as black cherry, strawberry and redcurrant. It then opens onto delicate floral notes of peony and violet, enhanced by subtle hints of citrus, sweet spices and a mineral thread.
Palate
On the palate, the wine offers a full and utterly elegant substance, without any heaviness. The texture stands out for its fine, granular tannins, supported by a refreshing acidity that carries the wine through to a long finish with mineral accents.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine harmonises beautifully with refined dishes. It will be an ideal match for roast poultry, such as pigeon or guinea fowl, served with forest mushrooms and root vegetables. It will also elevate tender red meats such as a beef fillet with light sauces, or noble firm-fleshed fish such as turbot. As for cheeses, a Brie or an aged dry goat's cheese will make an excellent pairing.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru 2020, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 15 to 16 °C. Decanting for about an hour is advised in its youth to release its aromas. Endowed with a beautiful structure, this wine can be enjoyed from 2025 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2035.
The elegance and purity of a great Burgundy wine crafted by Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue
The estate
While the winegrowing history of these lands dates back to 1450, the creation of the Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue under its current identity dates from 1925. Located in Burgundy, this property has remained within the same family for twenty generations. Today, Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette are its owners. The leading holder of the Musigny Grand Cru, the estate stands out for its respectful viticulture and singular philosophy, deliberately declassifying its young vines to guarantee the absolute excellence of its cuvées.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, renowned for its rich, free-draining clay-limestone soils. The distinctive character of this cuvée lies in its parcel-based origin: it is exclusively made from young vines under twenty-five years old planted on the prestigious terroir of the Musigny Grand Cru. Here, the estate practises uncertified organic viticulture, with limited yields to encourage concentration and the authentic expression of the grapes.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage offered ideal conditions, yielding berries of great purity with optimal phenolic ripeness. This vintage, which is also the last vinified by the historic cellar master François Millet, stands out for its modest yields, favouring a beautiful concentration while preserving a fine, fresh and perfectly balanced structure.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes destined for the Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru 2020 are hand-harvested and then meticulously sorted. Traditional Burgundian winemaking favours a gentle extraction in vats in order to preserve the elegance of the fruit. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, with a measured use of new oak to frame the material without ever dominating it.
