Characteristics and tasting tips for the Musigny Grand Cru Blanc 2021 from Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé

    Tasting

    Colour

The colour reveals a luminous pale gold hue, characteristic of this exceptional white Grand Cru.

    Nose

The nose reveals a delicate and complex bouquet, expressing aromas of white flowers accompanied by notes of fresh citrus. A crystalline minerality brings depth and elegance to the aromatic ensemble.

    Palate

On the palate, this white wine stands out for its remarkable freshness and tension, the signature of the 2021 vintage. The absence of tannins imparts a delicate texture, while the minerality harmoniously structures the palate leading to a persistent finish.

    Food and wine pairings

This Musigny Grand Cru Blanc 2021 pairs beautifully with seafood, delicate shellfish and simply prepared fine fish. It also pairs elegantly with light white meats and fresh goat cheeses.

    Service and cellaring

The Musigny Grand Cru Blanc 2021 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. Its mineral structure and freshness give it excellent aging potential, allowing for harmonious evolution over several decades.

A unique white Grand Cru from the Burgundian Côte de Nuits

    The estate

The Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, established around 1450 in Chambolle-Musigny, embodies over five centuries of Burgundy wine excellence. An uninterrupted family property since its foundation, the estate now spans approximately 12.6 hectares and holds nearly 70% of the prestigious Musigny Grand Cru vineyard. Currently managed by Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, granddaughters of Count Georges de Vogüé, the estate perpetuates a tradition of excellence under the leadership of cellar master Jean Lupatelli, who arrived in 2021. This Burgundy institution remains an undisputed reference for the quality and authenticity of its wines.

    The vineyard

Musigny constitutes an exceptional terroir in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. This climat benefits from a unique soil composition, with soils enriched with red clay in the upper sections and limestone of great purity. This exceptional geological feature allows for the cultivation of Chardonnay alongside Pinot Noir, making Musigny the only Grand Cru in the Côte de Nuits authorized to produce white wines. The estate's Chardonnay vines, replanted in 1997, have reached the maturity necessary to fully express the complexity of this unique terroir.

    The vintage

The 2021 vintage in Burgundy proved particularly demanding, marked by a lack of sunshine and cool conditions during the ripening period. Despite these climatic challenges, the Côte de Nuits managed to hold its own. Late harvests, carried out from the end of September, allowed for satisfactory phenolic ripeness. This cool context favored the preservation of remarkable natural acidity, giving the white wines a characteristic freshness and tension, particularly appreciated in northern appellations like Chambolle-Musigny.

    Winemaking and aging

The winemaking of the Musigny Grand Cru Blanc 2021 was carried out under the direction of Jean Lupatelli, who brought innovations respectful of the estate's tradition. The grapes, harvested manually in small 20 kg crates to preserve their integrity, were vinified with a non-interventionist approach. Aging took place in oak barrels, with work on fine lees allowing for the development of aromatic complexity while preserving the mineral purity characteristic of this exceptional terroir. This first production under the new direction testifies to a constant search for balance between tradition and modernity.
