    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Paradis Saint Pierre 2024 from Domaine Coursodon

    Tasting

    Appearance

Paradis Saint Pierre 2024 reveals a golden yellow colour with brilliant highlights, a testament to the ripeness of the grapes and the extended ageing in barrel.

    Nose

The nose is intense and complex, driven by aromas of ripe pear, quince and acacia honey, accompanied by notes of brioche and honeyed mint. Touches of spice, white flowers, lemon, cedar and jasmine enrich the bouquet, while a hint of wet stone adds a mineral depth reminiscent of the great white Hermitage wines.

    Palate

The palate is concentrated, ripe and rich, never becoming heavy thanks to a perfectly integrated acidity that underscores the powerful fruity core. The round, generous texture, slightly unctuous from the lees stirring, is balanced by a mineral freshness derived from the granitic bedrock. As the tasting unfolds, notes of toasted almonds and hazelnuts emerge, along with touches of vanilla oak and crème fraîche, leading to a powerful, long finish invigorated by a welcome hint of acidity.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This wine is ideally suited to white meats in creamy sauces, such as chicken with cream and mushrooms, as well as premium fish grilled skin-side down and served with refined accompaniments. Its richness and mineral freshness allow it to stand up to elaborate dishes while pleasantly cleansing the palate.

    Serving and Cellaring

Paradis Saint Pierre 2024 is best served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, which preserves its freshness while allowing the full complexity of its aromas to unfold gradually. This wine can be enjoyed now, but will reveal its full potential until around 2031-2032.

A White Saint-Joseph from Domaine Coursodon with Pronounced Granitic Minerality

    The Estate

Domaine Coursodon was founded at the end of the 19th century in Mauves, in the Rhône Valley, under the impetus of Jean-Auguste Coursodon and his son Antonin. Today run by Pierre Coursodon and his son Jérôme, the fifth generation at the helm of the estate, the domaine covers approximately 16 to 19 hectares entirely dedicated to the Saint-Joseph appellation, in both red and white. A pioneer of estate bottling as early as the 1950s, Coursodon has forged a reputation as a benchmark on the granitic slopes of Mauves, thanks to demanding manual viticulture and deliberately low yields.

    The Vineyard

Paradis Saint Pierre 2024 comes from very old marsanne vines planted on the Paradis lieu-dit, above the village of Mauves, in the Saint-Joseph appellation. These goblet-trained vines thrive on steep, shallow, south-facing granitic slopes, which require entirely manual viticulture, with no mechanisation possible. Yields, naturally very low, are around 30 hectolitres per hectare, promoting a natural concentration in the grapes.

    Vinification and Ageing

To produce Paradis Saint Pierre 2024, whole bunches undergo a long, gentle pneumatic pressing, followed by a natural alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature of around 18°C in Burgundy pièces. The wine is then aged for 12 months in barrel, with weekly lees stirring, which enriches the texture and develops aromas of brioche and cream that complement the primary fruity and floral notes.

    Grape Varieties

Paradis Saint Pierre 2024 is composed of approximately 90% marsanne and 10% roussanne.
