    Wine Spectator

    James Molesworth

There's serious depth to the shortbread, lemon curd, creamed yellow apple and melon notes, all inlaid with mouthwatering savory and thyme flavors. The long, powerful finish has plenty of buried mouth-watering acidity. This should age well. Best from 2015 through 2020.

    Decanter

From this vintage onwards, the wines were sealed with Diam instead of natural cork. The colour is green-gold, and the nose is quite closed even at six years old, with touches of straw and stone fruits that are strikingly fresh, revealing a power that slowly but surely builds across the palate.

Vibrant, refreshing and lively, the citrus, honeysuckle, lemon peel, green apple and crushed stone qualities are just starting to go on full display. Loads of energy are found in every sniff and sip. And this is only just starting to enter its journey. Based on previous vintages, this should age for decades.

Nuts, almonds, citrus, stone fruits, very good grip on the palate, intense and lingering with excellent purity, potential and persistence, very good.

Medium yellow with linden-green nuances, bright. Delicate bouquet with a certain fullness, opens beautifully, showing the first subtle vanilla-toasted notes, revealing new layers again and again. Concentrated palate, gorgeous fruit extract, white nectarines and mirabelles, conveying lemon oil in the focused finish. Has already found its balance and conveys clear minerality. Can even improve further and then join the sparsely populated 19-point white elite.

Creamy, elegant, fresh, mineral bouquet, fresh grapes, delicate lime, mint leaves. Velvety, fruity, balanced, dense palate with powerful fruit, fine acidity, full, intense aromatics, elegant structure, very long, full, complex finish. 19/20 2018 - 2035

    Bettane+Desseauve

Lemony vibrancy, a brisk, very citrus-driven body, and a fairly deep finish. Still very young but promising.

    Le Figaro Vin

The aromas of Domaine de Chevalier’s white wine are superb and highly complex. The wine is very elegant, fresh, structured, with good length and lovely body. A great success that will stand the test of decades.

Pale color with green highlights. Fine, fruity, ripe, subtle, and floral nose. Lovely, subtle, and fragrant entry on the palate with a delicate touch. The wine then unfolds with a magical combination of texture and flavor, built on a rising, sappy structure. Long, vanilla-tinged, delicious finish with a return of well-ripened lemon notes. It’s good and well-crafted.

    Roger Voss

93–95. Barrel sample. Complex, rounded and full bodied, this wine is still reticent at the moment, hiding its rich fruit. As it develops, this will be impressive, with its mineral texture over apricot fruits and layers of spice and wood.

    Description

A delicate, fresh and aromatic Pessac-Léognan white wine

    The producer

Owned by the Bernard family since 1983, the beautiful Domaine de Chevalier is at the top of the list of the finest Bordeaux Crus Classés. Like a secret garden, this iconic cru located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, to the south of Bordeaux, is surrounded by a green haven.

    The vineyard

Domaine de Chevalier watches over a rare vineyard which comprises 5 hectares of white vines. A true patchwork of terroirs, the Domaine de Chevalier vineyard is composed of black sand and fine white gravel soil resting on a perfectly drained clay-gravel subsoil.

    The vintage

After two years of drought, the heavy rainfall during spring was ideal and replenished the soil’s water reserves. The efficient vineyard management reduced the risk of disease caused by the rainfall and favoured, through green harvesting, a progressive and even flowering period. The good weather conditions during the summer months enabled the grapes to reach perfect ripeness up until the manual harvest, which took place between the 12th of September and the 5th of October.

    The vinification and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo successive selections based on their ripeness level. Slow pressing precedes alcoholic fermentation in barrels, as does the 18-month ageing period (35% new barrels), followed by regular stirring of the lees.

    The blend

The 2012 Domaine de Chevalier dry white wine comprises a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (70%) and Semillon (30%).

    The tasting

    Colour

Lively and bright, the colour is a beautiful pale gold.

    Nose

Precise and intense, this beautifully complex wine blends fresh fruit fragrances (vine peach, pineapple) and citrus fruits with subtle notes of acacia flowers. When aired, tasty mineral, minty and smoky notes emerge.

    Palate

Full and smooth, this wine will seduce the palate with its straightforwardness sustained by a lively acidity. Pure and refined, the palate combines an intense fruity expression with a delicate feel and a great freshness.
