Offering up aromas of peonies, sweet red berries, plums, warm spices, orange rind and cloves, the 2019 Givry 1er Cru Clos du Cellier Aux Moines is medium to full-bodied, lively and seamless, with powdery tannins, bright acids and a saline, mouthwatering finish. Evolving gracefully, this confirms its fine showing last year.

Blackberry, raspberry jam, currant, violet and clove intertwine on the nose of this wine. It is medium bodied, with silty tannins that wash away with ease from its mouthwatering acidity. The palate offers a beautiful floral layer of white rose and violet, followed by a layer of fresh blackberry and pulverized stone. Enjoyable now with a proper decant.

    Decanter

The finest Givry I have tasted from this vintage, the Domaine du Cellier aux Moines sports a dense plum and black cherry fruit, a suggestion of lavender and wild herbs, and a bit of liquorice and oak spice. The texture is rich and full-bodied with impressive substance and length. This wine should age seamlessly for 20 years at least. It was produced from five hectares of south-facing vines at mid-slope with clay soil and limestone pebbles. This is an impressive, complex wine that will only improve with age.

The stunning nose of ripe black cherry announces what this concentrated, fresh red Burgundy is all about. So much energy, plus a firm yet fine tannin structure and long, mineral finish make a serious statement for this underrated appellation. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Picked 14–17 September, bottled 26 July 2021. Very deep crimson. Broad and rich with great life. Very persistent. Dense but not heavy. Quite a bit of tannin on the end. (JR)

The estate was right to divert part of the grapes into a second wine. Fine on the palate, very true to Givry in style with a slightly wild, very fruity length. Elegant, satiny finish.

    La RVF

Deep ruby in color with a profound nose, whole-cluster fermentation delivers intense fruit aromas, a serious level of ripeness, and a precise, pure palate that is spicy and elegantly oaked. Its concentration, due to a hail episode at flowering, is matched by ripe, fine-grained tannins that will ensure long ageing.
