    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2023 from Domaine Faiveley

    Tasting

    Appearance
This red wine reveals a deep ruby hue, reflecting a remarkable visual concentration.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet displays great complexity. It releases red-fruit aromas harmoniously blended with delicate floral notes of rose and violet. Subtle hints of smoked berries, orange zest, spices and a discreet oak touch complete this olfactory palette.

    Palate
The attack is round, generous and fleshy. Medium to full-bodied, the palate unfolds flavours of fresh red fruits, spices and orange peel. The whole is supported by a firm yet balanced tannic structure, offering lovely freshness and extending into a finish of remarkable persistence.

    Food and wine pairings

This wine pairs wonderfully with premium red meats such as a rib steak or a roast beef, as well as with veal served with a reduced herb sauce. It also enhances poultry (wild duck, farm-raised chicken) served with mushrooms or truffles, slow-cooked game dishes, and matured cheeses from the region such as Époisses.

    Serving and cellaring

Endowed with a solid tannic framework, this Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2023 will reveal its full maturity around 2026 to 2028, while possessing the structure required for extended cellar ageing.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Burgundy Grand Cru by Domaine Faiveley

    The estate

Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley is an iconic figure of Burgundy. Today, the seventh generation, represented by Erwan Faiveley and his sister Eve, leads this prestigious family estate. With a vineyard covering around 125 hectares spread across the region's finest terroirs, the domaine combines respect for ancestral traditions with technical innovation. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the house is set to obtain organic farming certification in 2025, the year of its bicentenary, thereby perpetuating its heritage.

    The vineyard

This wine comes from the famous climat of Clos Vougeot, a historic site whose first vines were planted by Cistercian monks around the year 1150.

    The vintage

The 2023 growing season was generous and spared from major climatic incidents. Following a mild winter, spring provided an ideal flowering. The summer season was then marked by alternating heat waves, cooler periods and stormy showers. These conditions allowed for early harvests that began at the end of August, yielding healthy, abundant grapes with optimal ripeness.

    Winemaking and ageing

For the crafting of this Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2023, the estate opted for a vinification combining destemmed grapes with a moderate proportion of whole bunches in order to preserve the finesse of the aromas. The wine then benefits from measured ageing in French oak barrels, incorporating a judicious proportion of new wood to accompany the fruit's expression without masking it.
