    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux Saint-Jacques" 2024 Domaine Faiveley

    Tasting

    Colour
This red wine from France reveals a bright, intense ruby hue in its youth, which will evolve towards deep carmine or black cherry nuances over the years.

    Nose
The bouquet is complex and ever-evolving. It opens with generous aromas of red and black berries, reminiscent of blackberry and blueberry, underscored by a touch of blood orange. With aeration, delicate floral notes of violet, rose and mignonette appear, before giving way, over time, to scents of undergrowth, liquorice and leather.

    Palate
Powerful and warm, the palate offers a beautiful fruit concentration balanced by great freshness. The texture rests on creamy, velvety tannins. Flavours of blackcurrant and vanilla intertwine with a mineral backbone, leading to a remarkably long and lingering finish with subtle hints of leather.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted red meats, such as rib of beef or pork ribs, as well as with slow-cooked dishes. It also pairs wonderfully with game, such as hare terrine, or bolder dishes like glazed duck, roasted pigeon or abalone with mushrooms. When it comes to cheese, a matured Époisses makes a perfect regional pairing.

    Service and Storage

To fully appreciate the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux Saint-Jacques" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16 °C. A decanting period of 30 to 60 minutes is recommended in its youth to release its full aromatic range. With excellent potential, this wine can be cellared until around 2034.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru

    The Estate

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is a historic figure in Burgundy. Now led by the seventh generation, represented by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of more than 120 hectares spread across the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. Combining respect for tradition with innovation, the estate stands out for its deep environmental commitment, illustrated by the achievement of its organic farming certification in 2025, the year of its bicentenary.

    The Vineyard

This Gevrey-Chambertin comes from the climat Lavaux Saint-Jacques, located on the south-west-facing slope of the appellation, at an altitude of around 305 metres. The one-hectare plot, acquired by the estate in 2013, benefits from an ideal south-facing exposure. The vines, planted between 1968 and 2019, thrive on shallow, rocky, calcareous brown soils mixed with a high proportion of red clay. This complex geology, cultivated according to organic farming principles, gives the wine its characteristic minerality.

    The Vintage

The year 2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions, with relentless rain heightening the threat of powdery mildew. Faced with these climatic challenges, the estate demonstrated great rigour in vineyard management and worked with a specialised team to ensure a harvest of optimal quality.

    Winemaking and Aging

Under the technical direction of Jérôme Flous, the winemaking process for the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux Saint-Jacques" 2024 aims to express the full authenticity of its terroir. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, combining new barrels with once-used barrels. This measured approach to oak adds further complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit.
