    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 Domaine Faiveley

    Tasting

    Colour
This red wine from France reveals a magnificent deep ruby hue, marked by beautiful clarity and remarkable elegance.

    Nose
Highly complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of red and black fruits such as raspberry and wild berries. Upon aeration, subtle touches of damp earth, liquorice and smoke emerge, harmoniously complemented by nuances of vanilla and sweet spices from its ageing in wood.

    Palate
Full-bodied and supple, the palate offers a multidimensional texture supported by remarkably fine tannins and a chalky minerality. Aromas of cherry, blackberry and light ferrous notes intertwine before stretching into a particularly long, persistent and delicately oaked finish.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This Burgundian Grand Cru pairs wonderfully with feathered game in sauce, wild boar or roast lamb in its own juices. It will also elevate a fine grilled beef dish, glazed poultry, as well as characterful soft cheeses such as Époisses.

    Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. Built for ageing, this cellar-worthy wine will ideally rest in the cellar to be enjoyed until around 2044.

    Other Characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13%.

The Elegance and Depth of a Grand Cru from Burgundy by Domaine Faiveley

    The Estate

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is a true institution in Burgundy. Now led by the seventh generation, represented by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate oversees an exceptional vineyard of more than 125 hectares spread across the region's most prestigious appellations. Combining respect for centuries-old traditions with a modern and sustainable vision, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment, crowned by organic farming certification. The estate's wines are recognised worldwide for their excellence and their faithfulness to Burgundian terroirs.

    The Vineyard

The Mazis-Chambertin plot spans 1.56 hectares in the upper part of the climat, known as the « Mazis Haut », to the north of Gevrey-Chambertin. East-facing, the vines benefit from gentle morning sunlight. The terroir is distinguished by shallow soils composed of Premeaux limestone, hard rocks and marine fossils, with a low proportion of clay. Cultivated according to organic farming principles, this vineyard is home to vines of varying ages, the oldest of which, planted between 1930 and 1945, give the grapes exceptional concentration.

    The Vintage

The year 2023 stands out for conditions that allowed for a particularly generous harvest, combining an abundant volume with exceptional berry quality.

    Winemaking and Aging

The production of the Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 is carried out with meticulous care at the modern facilities in Nuits-Saint-Georges. After a gentle extraction of pigments and tannins, the wine undergoes ageing of 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels. This maturation period involves a proportion of 60% new barrels and 40% once-used barrels, refining the structure while preserving the brilliance of the fruit.
