    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" Joseph Faiveley 2022

    Tasting

    Colour
This wine displays an intense, deep ruby colour, enhanced by delicate violet hues.

    Nose
The complex bouquet is dominated by aromas of ripe red fruits such as cherry and raspberry. It then opens onto spicy and mineral notes, rounded out by subtle floral touches reminiscent of rose and violet.

    Palate
This wine stands out for its lively, robust character combined with singular elegance. The texture offers fine tannins that coat the palate, supported by lovely acidity that brings freshness and tension. The finish is remarkably long, lingering on notes of red cherry, spice and minerality.

    Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs perfectly with flavourful meats such as leg of lamb, rib of beef or duck breast. It also enhances game dishes such as venison or pheasant, as well as traditional Burgundian washed-rind cheeses such as Époisses or Langres. For a bolder pairing, it goes very well with fish prepared in a red wine sauce, such as carp à la bourguignonne.

    Service and Storage
To fully appreciate this vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 15 to 17°C, decanting it one hour before tasting. With its fine structure, this wine offers excellent aging potential while remaining approachable in its youth.

The Elegance and Depth of a Premier Cru from Nuits-Saint-Georges

    The Estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley is an emblematic institution of Burgundy. Located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the estate now spans a vast vineyard of around 120 to 127 hectares, spread across prestigious terroirs. Currently run by Erwan Faiveley, representing the seventh generation, alongside his sister Eve Faiveley, the family estate stands out for its long-term vision and environmental commitment. Certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value), it is currently converting to organic farming, thereby perpetuating the excellence and authentic expression of its terroirs.

    The Vineyard
The "Les Saint-Georges" climat is one of the most historic terroirs of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, cultivated since around the year 1000. Located south of the village, the estate's plots cover an area of around 0.23 hectares, with vines planted in 1933 and 1974. This terroir benefits from an ideal south-east exposure and a moderate altitude. The soils, made up of brown limestone and clay, give the grapes a unique mineral typicity and great freshness.

    The Vintage
The 2022 vintage offered very favourable weather conditions. The season began with strategic rainfall during the early stages of vine development. This was followed by an exceptionally hot summer that accelerated the ripening of the berries. Finally, welcome rains at the end of August helped rehydrate the vines, preserving natural acidity and preventing excessive concentration, resulting in a generous and well-balanced harvest.

    Winemaking and Aging
Production relies on gentle methods, facilitated by a gravity-fed system that eliminates the use of mechanical pumps. After careful manual sorting and cold pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats, with measured punching-down and pumping-over. The wine is then gently pneumatic-pressed before being barrelled. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, with a suitable proportion of new wood, for a period of 12 to 18 months, punctuated by regular rackings.

    Grape Variety
    Pinot Noir (100%).
