    Decanter

Rebourseau owns 1.32ha in three parcels, all within the lieu-dit Aux Charmes in the upper part of the appellation. The ripe fruit is carefully fermented with about 5% of the fruit added as whole clusters. The wine is aged in barrels from François Frères, Taransaud and Rousseau. The result shows lovely, lush red berry fruit, a silky texture and a plump feel on the palate, all consistent with the best of this appellation.

    Neal Martin

The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from four separate parcels and is matured in 80% new oak. This Pinot Noir has a perfumed bouquet, with crushed rose petal and violets. It is rather plush and very well delineated, quite Mazoyères in style. The palate is well balanced with lush tannins. This is a luxuriant Charmes-Chambertin, smooth, sensual and very pure. A touch of spiciness towards the finish lingers in the mouth. This is a classy Charmes-Chambertin.

    Bettane+Desseauve

Charmes is quite powerful, with velvety tannins and a racy palate. Well-crafted, its saline, dense finish will encourage cellaring—it deserves it.

    Wine Spectator

    Bruce Sanderson

A ripe red introduced by distinctive graphite and juniper aromas, with plum, blackberry and earth notes plying the soft structure. Reveals light tannins, with a long finish marked by a flash of orange peel. Best from 2025 through 2040. 80 cases imported.

    Description

A Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru that is elegant, smooth and perfect for the cellar

    The estate

Founded in 1782 and present in 9 Burgundian appellations, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is one of the estates which owns the most extensive surface area of Grands Crus in the Côte de Nuits. The estate hails its exceptional heritage-filled vines, resting on land that has been cultivated for over 1400 years. Today, the de Surrel family watch over this exceptional heritage by carrying out organic and biodynamic farming practices. Thus, there is no unique "Rebourseau taste" and the quality-oriented approach emphasises the crucial part that the ''climat'' plays in the production of fine wines.

    The vineyard

Domaine Henri Rebourseau stretches across Côte de Nuits. Charmes-Chambertin Grand cru 2019 stems from its eponymous plot placed on limestone soils equally rich in pebbles of marl and iron. With a surface area of 1.32 hectares, this vineyard is located on the highest part of Charmes-Chambertin.

    The wine

The early 20th-century French historian, Gaston Roupnel, described the treasured and unique character of this Burgundy territory as follows: ‘’Between Chambertin and Charmes, there is a difference in the softening of vigour and ruggedness, which often, even in good years, offsets a sophisticated finesse, becoming therefore more sensitive and more pronounced”.

    The vintage

Though the growing cycle in the Gevrey-Chambertin area started slowly, it accelerated from May onwards. The summer notably had two heatwaves. The harvest began on 10 September giving rise to structured and complex wines while preserving freshness and minerality.

    Winemaking and ageing

The harvested grapes were chilled as soon as they arrived in the winery. A minimalist intervention was chosen for the fermentations, with light treading the cap.

    The blend

    Pinot Noir (100%).
