    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2023 Domaine Henri Rebourseau

    Tasting

    Colour
This red wine from France reveals a deep colour with intense ruby and violet hues.

    Nose
Wonderfully complex, the bouquet reveals aromas of smoky berries and fresh cherries, harmoniously complemented by delicate touches of incense and sweet spices.

    Palate
Generous and full-bodied, the palate offers lovely concentration combined with a rich and velvety profile. The remarkably silky, well-integrated tannins support a depth marked by balsamic accents. The whole retains a lovely freshness thanks to well-preserved acidity, leading to a beautifully balanced finish.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs harmoniously with rich and flavourful meats. It will ideally accompany duck breast with black cherries, jugged hare, or feathered game prepared with wild mushrooms and a dark fruit reduction. Delicate red meats, such as a tournedos served with a mushroom sauce, will also beautifully enhance this cuvée.

    Service and Storage

This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2023 can be enjoyed satisfyingly between 2028 and 2030, but it will reveal its optimal balance if cellared until around 2050.

    Other Characteristics

This cuvée boasts a controlled yield of 30.07 hectolitres per hectare. It has also been rated between 93 and 94 points by specialist critics.

The Elegance and Depth of a Grand Cru from Burgundy

    The Estate

Formally established in 1919 by General Henri Rebourseau, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is a historic estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, in Burgundy. Spanning 13.5 hectares, this vineyard underwent a major turning point in December 2018 when it was acquired by brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues, with the de Surrel family retaining a minority stake. Now led by Bastien Giraud, the estate combines a heritage of prestigious terroirs with modern facilities, marking a new winemaking approach.

    The Vineyard

The estate cultivates its vines using entirely organic and biodynamic methods. This cuvée comes exclusively from a 2.21-hectare plot located at the heart of the Clos Vougeot climat. This wine is sourced more specifically from old vines planted in the upper section of the plot, the oldest of which date back to 1927. Their deep roots draw out the quintessence of this terroir, while the harvest is carried out entirely by hand to ensure a rigorous selection of the fruit.

    The Vintage

The 2023 vintage stood out for its warm, dry weather conditions, offering remarkable abundance across the region. This natural generosity allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness, providing the opportunity for meticulous sorting to retain only the highest-quality fruit.

    Winemaking and Aging

The Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2023 is the first vintage crafted in the estate's new cellar. The grapes benefit from precise plot-by-plot vinification in open wooden vats, with rigorous temperature control. Extraction is kept particularly gentle to preserve the fruit's natural freshness and elegance. Aging is then carried out with a moderate proportion of around 50% new oak barrels, a reconsidered approach designed to let the terroir express itself fully without being overpowered by the wood.

    Grape Variety
