    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Fonteny" 2023 Domaine Henri Rebourseau

    Tasting

    Colour
A beautiful red colour reveals itself in the glass.

    Nose
The nose reveals great aromatic complexity, blending scents of smoky berries, fresh cherry, and incense. It then evolves toward notes of morello cherry, raspberry, subtle floral touches, and sweet spices.

    Palate
Medium-bodied, the palate offers a taut mid-palate with remarkable freshness. It unfurls flavours of strawberry cream and wild strawberry, underscored by a saline minerality evoking graphite and wet stone. The whole is supported by fine tannins and a bright acidity.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs harmoniously with braised duck with autumn vegetables, herb-crusted lamb, or feathered game such as pheasant. It also goes very well with squash-based dishes, mushroom recipes, or ripened cheeses such as Époisses.

    Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Fonteny" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 16°C. This Burgundy wine can be enjoyed now, but will continue to evolve favourably in the cellar over the years.

The Purity and Elegance of a Premier Cru from Gevrey-Chambertin

    The Estate

Founded in 1782, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is a historic figure in Burgundy. Located in the Côte de Nuits, the estate oversees an exceptional vineyard. Since 2018, the Bouygues family has been the estate's current owner, while integrating the historic descendants into its management. A pioneer, the estate stands out for its organic and biodynamic viticulture, aiming to reveal the identity of each terroir with minimal intervention.

    The Vineyard

The plot from which this wine originates is located in the Fonteny climat, within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. The vines thrive on a subsoil of crinoidal limestone, covered by deep soils rich in silt and clay. This singular terroir, cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics, benefits from a protective microclimate that favours balanced ripening of the grapes.

    The Vintage

The year 2023 was characterised by an early growing cycle, driven by above-average spring sunshine and temperatures. Winter rainfall allowed sufficient water reserves to be built up to offset the summer drought. These conditions favoured excellent berry concentration and optimal ripening through to harvest.

    Winemaking and Aging

True to a low-intervention philosophy, the winemaking favours gentle macerations, with minimal destemming incorporating whole clusters. Aging then takes place in oak barrels to preserve the brilliance of the fruit.

    Grape Variety

This wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir.
