The Elegance and Fruity Purity of a Great Gevrey-Chambertin Wine

    The Estate

Founded in 1782 by Jacques Rebourseau, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is a historic estate located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, in Burgundy. Spanning 13.5 hectares, the estate is distinguished by its heritage of old vines and its commitment to biodynamics since 2011. Acquired in 2018 by brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues, who are its current owners, the estate is managed in collaboration with Jean de Surrel. Together, they combine modern investments with the preservation of a centuries-old family heritage to showcase exceptional terroirs.

    The Vineyard

Ideally located between the villages of Gevrey-Chambertin and Vougeot, the vineyard rests on a complex geological mosaic. The soils consist of crinoidal limestone, brown limestone, clay, gravel, and marl rich in marine fossils. The vines, cultivated according to biodynamic principles and harvested by hand, receive meticulous care. The village-level plots benefit from these stony, marl-rich soils, which give the grapes both elegance and structural firmness.

    The Vintage

The year began with a mild spring that favored good budbreak and successful flowering. The summer was marked by storms that brought beneficial rainfall, thereby preventing any water stress for the vines. August proved changeable, alternating between periods of heat and coolness. Finally, an exceptional heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 40°C, swept through the region in late August and early September, accelerating ripening ahead of a later harvest, on September 22.

    Winemaking and Aging

For this Gevrey-Chambertin 2023, the grapes undergo gentle, warm macerations to preserve the brightness of the fruit. Must transfers are carried out by gravity to avoid any oxidation linked to pumping. Aging takes place in 350- and 450-liter barrels, with a moderate proportion of new oak at around 40%, highlighting the aromatic purity without masking the identity of the terroir.
