    Description

The Finesse and Depth of a Grand Cru from Burgundy by Domaine Henri Rebourseau

    The Estate

Founded in 1782 by Claude Rebourseau, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is a historic estate located in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, in Burgundy. Spanning just over 13 hectares, including an exceptional share of Grands Crus, the estate is distinguished by its single, continuous vineyard. Since 2018, the Bouygues family has owned the estate, while the founding family remains a minority shareholder. Committed to organic and biodynamic viticulture, the estate has recently modernised its infrastructure to enhance the expression of its prestigious terroirs.

    The Vineyard

The Mazy-Chambertin plot (also known as Mazis-Chambertin) spans 0.96 hectares and is planted with vines around 45 years old. This unique terroir rests on a complex geology combining hard limestone at the top and marl-limestone soils rich in marine fossils at the bottom of the slope. The vineyard is divided into two distinct blocks: the northern part, more exposed to airflow, lends a mineral structure, while the southern part, benefiting from excellent sun exposure, gives the grapes a more fruit-forward profile. The entire vineyard is cultivated according to biodynamic principles to promote biodiversity.

    Winemaking and Aging

The grapes for the 2023 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru are harvested exclusively by hand. In the cellar, the two blocks of the plot are vinified separately before the final blend, which favours the northern block. Extraction is gentle and respectful of the fruit, with light punching-down at the start of fermentation. The wine is then aged with a reduced proportion of new oak barrels, around 40%, to highlight the pure expression of the terroir.

    Grape Variety

    Pinot Noir (100%).

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 by Domaine Henri Rebourseau

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant hue ranging from deep ruby to cherry black.

    Nose
Delicate and refined, the nose opens with aromas of fresh red fruits such as cherry and redcurrant, underscored by a chalky minerality. It then reveals floral notes of violet and undergrowth, before enriching with smoky and rooibos nuances upon aeration.

    Palate
With a velvety texture, the palate offers fine, elegant tannins. The balance between acidity and fruit is harmonious, revealing flavours of fresh red fruits combined with a subtle mineral salinity. The finish stands out for its length and great complexity.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with feathered game such as pheasant or woodcock, as well as with hearty meats such as roast beef rib or venison in sauce. It also pairs very well with mushroom dishes, a beef fillet Rossini, or aged regional cheeses such as Époisses.

    Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, this wine should be served between 12 and 14°C in its youth, and decanted about an hour before serving. This wine can be enjoyed now, but its structure allows it to age beautifully in the cellar until around 2035, or even beyond.
