The 2022 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos de Champs Martin Cuvée Carline is showing beautifully, with a livelier profile than the 2023. Wafting from the glass with notes of dark berries, orange zest, exotic spices and violets, it's medium- to full-bodied, deep and velvety, with a vibrant core of fruit, sweet tannins and a long, perfumed finish.

    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Mercurey 1er Cru "Carline Clos des Champs Martin" 2022 Domaine Lorenzon

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant ruby red hue, marked by great depth and luminosity.

    Nose
Remarkably complex, the bouquet opens with aromas of red and black fruits (raspberry, strawberry, blackberry) mingled with delicate floral notes of violet. On aeration, mineral and smoky nuances emerge, enriched by touches of sweet spice (cocoa, cardamom) and a subtle scent of forest floor.

    Palate
The attack is velvety and full-bodied, offering a soft texture that evolves into a concentrated mid-palate of great mineral precision. The vibrancy of the fruit is supported by fine tannins and a refreshing acidity typical of limestone terroirs. The finish, long and persistent, stands out for its noble earthy notes and remarkable minerality.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with a côte de bœuf, grilled or roasted meats, as well as lamb in a thyme- or rosemary-scented sauce. It will also enhance a pork roast, braised poultry, or characterful aged cheeses such as Époisses or Langres.

    Service and Storage

For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve the Mercurey 1er Cru "Carline Clos des Champs Martin" 2022 at a temperature of between 14 and 16°C. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended to release its full aromatic complexity. Blessed with a solid structure, this wine has excellent aging potential, allowing it to evolve gracefully for many years to come.

    Other Characteristics

In order to preserve the complete purity of its expression and natural complexity, this cuvée is bottled without any filtration or fining.

The Elegance and Mineral Precision of a Mercurey Premier Cru

    The Estate

Representing the fourth generation of his family, Bruno Lorenzon took the reins of Domaine Lorenzon in 1997. Located in Burgundy, in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, the estate grew from 4.5 to 9 hectares under his leadership. Supported by his sister Carline, he has established the domaine as one of the essential references of the appellation. A pioneer, he has cultivated the vineyard without any pesticides for over thirty years. This respectful philosophy, combined with a tailored approach that extends to crafting his own barrels, gives rise to wines of remarkable precision.

    The Vineyard

This wine comes from a 0.6-hectare micro-parcel located within the prestigious climat classified as Premier Cru in Mercurey, the Clos des Champs Martin. The vines, over 60 years old, benefit from optimal sun exposure and are planted at a very high density of 12,000 vines per hectare. The terroir is distinguished by its reddish, very stony soils, rich in limestone and particularly low in clay, promoting ideal drainage and berry concentration. The harvest is carried out by hand in small six-kilogram crates.

    Winemaking and Aging

The winemaking of the Mercurey 1er Cru "Carline Clos des Champs Martin" 2022 is distinguished by a high proportion of whole-cluster fermentation, reaching 80%. After careful maceration and fermentation, the wine undergoes an extended aging period of at least twelve months in French oak barrels, with a measured proportion of carefully selected new wood. The maturation process concludes with a six-month rest in stainless steel tanks before bottling, allowing the wine to stabilize while preserving the vibrancy of its fruit.
