    Decanter

Characteristic of her 2022s, pure luscious black fruit is apparent, supplemented by an alluring floral component. The tannins are sturdier yet still supple and unobtrusive. There’s an uncommon elegance here. Dare I say, a charming Pommard. Les Chaponnières sits on the Volnay side, but near the village of Pommard itself, tucked in between Les Croix Noires and Les Rugiens. A portion of Parent’s vines were planted in 1929.

    Description

The intensity and structure of a Pommard wine

    The estate

More than a dozen generations have succeeded each other at the Domaine Parent, each contributing to the building. In the 20th century, Jacques Parent brought a breath of modernity to the estate. Today, his daughters Anne and Catherine Parent closely ensure the perpetuation of this family heritage, thus devotedly following in their father's footsteps. Adept at organic and biodynamic viticulture, Domaine Parent aspires only to express with precision the balance between power and finesse and of course the unique essence of each climate. The result is wines that, by their unique character, find their place on gastronomic tables alongside the great wines of Burgundy.

    The vineyard

Pommard 1er cru "Les Chaponnières" 2019 comes from the Domaine Parent vineyard, located in the Pommard 1er Cru appellation. There, old vines aged 61 to 75 years flourish on a clay-limestone soil to reveal the sublime expression of Pinot Noir.

    Vinification and aging

After manual harvesting carried out with the utmost care, the grapes are meticulously sorted on tables, one of which is vibrating. Subsequently, the bunches are destemmed and the berries macerate cold for 3 to 5 days. Temperature control, punching down and pumping over 2 to 3 times a day accompany the winemaking process. In total, the wine remains in the vat for 18 to 20 days. Then, the wine ages for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 30 to 40% of which are new, before being bottled at the estate.
