    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Monthélie Village 2022 Domaine Pierre Morey

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful purple hue of fine intensity, adorned with ruby highlights.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves precise and expressive, offering notes of small red and black fruits such as cranberry, wild strawberry, raspberry and plum. Subtle spicy touches emerge with aeration.

    Palate
Medium-bodied, the palate seduces with its balance and harmony. The tannins, remarkably fine and delicate, blend perfectly with flavours of crunchy red fruits and sweet spices, extending into a persistent, elegant finish.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry such as duck, lamb with herbs, or white meats in a light sauce. It also goes very well with hard cheeses such as Beaufort or aged Comté, as well as Mediterranean dishes.

    Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this Monthélie Village 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 16°C, taking care to decant it thirty to sixty minutes before tasting. This wine can be enjoyed now, but will continue to improve, drinking well through to approximately 2032.

The Refined Expression of the Monthélie Terroir by Domaine Pierre Morey

    The Estate

Based in Meursault in Burgundy, Domaine Pierre Morey was officially founded in 1971 by Pierre Morey, who comes from a winegrowing family established in the village since 1793. A pioneer of environmentally responsible viticulture, the estate distinguished itself through an early conversion to biodynamic practices in the late 1990s. Today, the estate oversees a vineyard of around ten hectares spread across several prestigious appellations. The domaine is currently co-managed by its founder Pierre Morey and his daughter Anne Morey, recently joined by Jean-Victor Morey to carry on this family's excellence and expertise.

    The Vineyard

The plots dedicated to producing this Monthélie span approximately 1.32 hectares, spread across six distinct lieux-dits within the appellation. The vines, around sixty years old, thrive on south and southeast-facing slopes, at an altitude ranging from 230 to 370 metres. The soils consist of stony Bathonian limestone, covered with red clay and marl, offering wonderful geological diversity.

    The Vintage

The year began with a mild, dry winter, followed by a warm spring. The summer season was marked by intense heat and several heatwaves. However, welcome rainfall in mid-August helped prevent water stress in the vines. These weather conditions favoured early, optimal ripening, leading to a harvest in late August with grapes in impeccable health.

    Winemaking and Aging

The grapes are harvested by hand with rigorous sorting of the bunches. After complete destemming, vinification takes place in the traditional way in wooden vats, using indigenous yeasts. Gentle pumping-over is favoured for delicate extraction. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for fifteen to twenty-four months, before being bottled without prior filtration to preserve all its richness.
